Whites allowed themselves to be convinced to give up on racism, because Whites generally have a more positive and egalitarian outlook on life. They believe in fairness and compassion. Then when we finally had brought about the most colorblind society in history, the coloreds stabbed us in the back. Social rules can change. Laws can be reversed. India was one of the ancient cradles of civilization. Ancient Indian culture was pretty cool (besides the caste system), but something about the advent of the modern age corrupted them completely. I believe one of the main factors (again besides the caste system) was the Indian population absolutely exploding during the 20th century and overwhelming their infrastructure, government, etc. India has as many people as China but only a third of their landmass. Modern Indian culture is the societal equivalent of a burnt-out, failed-to-launch former gifted kid.

If you can just apply one great big set of rules to everyone, then you only need one good ruleset, not a dozen to account for a dozen different cultures. The 'Melting Pot' goal is a single, genericized mass of humanity they can treat identically regardless of time and place, because it makes spreadsheet manglement easier. If there is no unified culture, there's no unified list of things you definitely can't do, and no single point of failure or rage to worry about, so the theory goes.
