They were used in the African and the Middle-Eastern theaters against other colonial troops. They weren't used in Europe again because, as I mentioned, when the British tried to employ them on the Western Front the Gurkhas performed atrociously. They did do better in WW2 but again, most of their fearsome reputation comes from fighting the Japanese not from their exploits in Italy and Greece. Wehrmacht didn't think they were anything particularly special. Even today Gurkhas are basically used by the British as glorified guardsmen. Better than the rest of their subcontinental brethren but not by that much.In ww1 the Gurkhas were used for the entirety of the war and were used in Italy and Greece during ww2. By all accounts they were extremely good soldiers.
Its kinda telling that the British stopped using Indian divisions after the Indian independence, but kept using Gurkhas.
Part of this is them literally just being physically superior because of their lung capacity from living in the mountains, but also because they basically fight with a fanaticism that would make the Japanese blush. They were even known for not raping unlike the Moroccan and African troops employed in Italy.
