The Lynn/Becker report isn't one test being administered across all nations, it's a metastudy that used existing test results from other researchers. Crop rotation has existed for almost as long as agriculture existed. What was different between different agricultural societies was what system they used, for example a three field system would mean field 1 grew crop 1, field 2 grew crop 2, field 3 laid fallow, then the next season field 1 laid fallow, field 2 grew crop 1, field 3 grew crop 2 etc.

Just like for example animal breeding our ancestors didn't know how exactly it worked, but they knew that crop rotation worked and that fields would get depleted if it was used to grow the same crop again and again.

In ww1 the Gurkhas were used for the entirety of the war and were used in Italy and Greece during ww2. By all accounts they were extremely good soldiers.
