Obviously a funny thread, but this reply undersells what respect means in an honour culture. They might have different interpretations or ways of practicing it, but pretending that South India or the proud state of whatever-the-fuck-gobbligook-istan don't also practice honour is just jeet coping. An Indian doesn't go outside and think 'today I will practice izzat and steal izzat from everybody I meet', anymore than a westerner thinks 'I will practice the values of the Enlightenment and universal humanism today'. It's the default modus operandis of two different cultures. Indians behave like they do because izzat is baked into their zeitgeist. They don't have to consciously believe in an honour system to be the products of an honour culture.

On that note, the primary mechanism of honour cultures to discourage bad behaviour is shame. Shame comes purely from how other people perceive you. Shame is 'You are bad' versus guilt's 'You did something bad.' The reason why shame is so destructive to development is because it:
  1. Doesn't discourage wrongdoing on the shamed's part, but rather encourages them to not get caught
  2. Offers no path of redemption or reconciliation, you are shamed and your only recourse is to endure it
  3. Makes the shamed feel like there's something inherently wrong with them
In honour culture, reconciliation is considered to be taking the weaker position, thus you lose honour and are ashamed for doing it. Reconciliation, of course, is what teaches you how to learn from your mistakes, alleviates your discomfort from wrongdoings, teaches psychological resilience and help you develop empathy for other people.

To put it another way, Indians arguably don't have the neurological muscles to even understand western morality. They are shame-traumatized honour goblins who only care if their parents catch them doing the needful.

It also means more grifting for land owners who won't bother cleaning up once they've cleared the land and just like last week - next time there are heavy rains a whole bunch of towns downhill are going to get wiped out with slash.

Interestingly native forestry was finally shit canned in the 90's with the last vestiges of the sustainable logging program (process dead trees and plant two more) being shutdown by the Bolger/Shipley government. I remember it well.

I can see this being marginal at best. But probably not that great.

On one hand I can totally buy these chucklefucks expecting a repeat of the China FTA, which was a mixed bag as we're about the only place that has a trade surplus with them but with some serious downsides (they constantly like to interfere).
Problem being that, India has no consumer market as they are on average poorer than your average Chinese consumer so this is likely to go one way.

It's come out today there is currently an existing scam with indians paying for jobs at fast food joints which I imagine will likely further piss people off who are already sick of jeet nonsense. They're already 50% of the reason I no longer eat fast food on the whole.

This whole deal is stupid and going just fuck up everything on purpose and the only upside is that it's going to blackpill the fuck out of everyone.

The enemy comes from within. There are countless lawyer bureaus built around milking the government for all its worth. People applying for asylum get their legal fees paid by the state. So they go through case after case, moving to higher and higher courts, even though it is hopeless, because it's free to try and maybe the judge is some retard that decides he's gonna let you stay. Even the most retarded dirt-eating African is a nuisance since he is instructed how to jump through every legal hoop to frustrate the system as much as possible.
