r.e. Nipah virus. India's relationship with disease ties pretty heavily into superstition and their schizophrenic religions. Back when the Corona pandemic was on, Indians specifically created a Corona goddess and tried to placate her with prayer.

Some articles even compared the Corona virus to an Asura, and it was the goddess' duty to slay this asura. There is also the AIDS goddess.
Temple of the Aids Goddess
The above article, while it admits that the 'temple' was erected to help raise awareness of the disease, had pilgrims arriving to pray for their disease to be cured.
During the late 19th century, when India was being ravaged by the Bubonic Plague, a specific facet of their disease goddess emerged and was worshipped to appease the disease called Plague Amma.
So, it's entirely possible we could see the emergence of a Nipah Devi in response to a Nipah pandemic.
