Do people like Elon want unlimited H1B immigrants because they can provide cheap labor? Well yes, obviously that's the reason, but it's not only that, they want H1B immigrants because they need to do everything their employer says or else they get sent back to their shitty country.

All of the arguments in favor of H1B visas when it comes to coding and many other jobs don't make sense because there is no reason for them to come to the country employing them, they could just work remote, but if they work remote they can quit when they start being exploited and there are much less reasons for them allowing the exploitation to happen, living in a good country instead of the hell that is India is amazing for them, and being threatened to be sent back keeps them doing everything their employer wants.

The whole situation in a way reminds me of Manumission, which was a process in which a slave was freed by purchasing his freedom, slave owners realized that slaves have no incentive to work hard or to do a good job if they get nothing out of it, which of course lowers their productivity, this is specially true in work that requires more than just being able to work as a beast of burden, so the slave owner can offer to the slave the possibility of purchasing his freedom, and to save money towards this goal the slave owner pays the slave an amount of money for his work or rents the slave to someone else, the slave has an incentive to work harder due to being able to buy his freedom if he saves enough; the Indian H1B situation reminds me of this, people like Elon want Indians because they will work harder if they are incentivized by the idea of being able to escape from India permanently.

I tend to avoid blackpilling but it's looking increasingly like we're at the end of an era, another wild west is coming to a close. The age of workers rights and working conditions seems to be coming to a close, or atleast a new darker chapter. Corporations realize that no longer is foreign labor just for replacing manual workers, but it can replace skilled workers too. The foundational element of collective bargaining is gone, because there's some jeets that'll do it for pennies. I think more and more people every day see it the same way.

I'm kind of becoming an accelerationist, considering just asking companies if I can work for them for free, if the bar's going to be forced lower and lower, it might as well be set as low as possible as soon as possible. Then maybe people will do something.

but that's the thing. h1 visa holders from india arriving today will not be eligible to get their green cards for another 125 years from the EB-3 and -4 route. the US only hands out 400,000 green cards a year and no more than 7% can go to a single country.

they have worked around this by having american children and then having them petition their parents when they turn 21 for a green card through that route since the backlog there is smaller. its always been easily exploitable labor that oligarchs love to keep their domestic cattle in line.
