I don't know why the "you can't handle spicy!" is a big own. They don't mean flavorful in general but just "hot" spice. Most people can handle it fine but don't want to eat spicy foods like that all the time, especially since it can contribute to having more body odor. I prefer flavoring with herbs and having quality enough meat you can rely on its natural flavor. I'm not going to be walking around smelling like BO all the time regardless of how much I wash just to prove I can "handle" it.
Also, I think people get confused about foods people eat to lose weight for some reason being considered a traditional meal. They're not. Plain-ish chicken with some rice is something people who want something readily available that won't contribute to gaining weight. It's a diet thing not a culture thing. (They should have some veggies with the chicken not rice IMO but that's beside the point.)
