It really feels like immigrants assimilating in western nations just doesn't happen anymore. When I was growing up in the early 2000s if you came here you were expected to learn English and at least attempt to adapt to American culture. My Danish ancestors who came here in the 1920s were forced to stop speaking their language in schools and workplaces and became Americans within a single generation. Now Americanization (the only thing that kept the huge waves of immigration in the 1800s and early 1900s from creating some huge ethnic war) is almost actively discouraged because of "racism". Expecting Indians, Mexicans or god forbid Somalians to actually try and fit in to our culture is demonized and so huge pockets of cities just become colonies of said ethnic group. The future without mass deportations is beyond fucked maybe to the point of irreparability.
