I thought his insight was... decent. I disagree with his conclusion though.

If there were hundreds of thousands attending these events. and these things were capable of a quick death, then it's necessary to assume there was a non-zero number of suicides. So the idea that someone who hated their life, or felt a sudden spiritual devotion, would leap in front of it to be reincarnated probably has to be accepted as a main stay tradition.

But otherwise, I don't like his conclusion that these were simply accidental crowd crushes. If a crowd crush is so common, that a random viewer witnessed it - then it was probably much more frequent than he suspects. Probably happening more than once per tour. So the more reasonable conclusion is:

"Hey, why were so many people killed today??"
"Oh, this happens every time we wheel the big ole float out to the crowds"
"Why don't you stop??"
"Because this is a sacred tradition to us"

Is a much more accurate realistic encapsulation of these events to me
