legit go on yellowstones socials and you will find them CONSTANTLY telling tourists to NOT pet the buffalos and still like clockword at least a handful get injured or worseIf a sign on the trail or mountain tells you to watch out for a certain hazard or turn back due to any inclement weather, heed the warnings. Many hikers die because they think these warnings are overblown. They are not.
Lyme sucks but I'm more worried about alpha-gal syndrome these days. Most of the hiking I do these is in Appalachia, which is a hot spot for that right now. I don't fuck around with "natural" solutions like herbal/plant based repellents because I hate ticks. When I'm out there with my family I ensure anti-tick measures are being taken. Another good use for walking sticks is pushing branches/bush away from you when you have to go through grown areas. That's where the ticks like to lie in wait. I've seen stalks standing with hundreds of tiny ticks on them just waiting to latch onto a passer by.100% DEET can damage clothing over time but Lyme's disease is far worse. Lyme's disease can leave permanent and lasting health consequences.
Not a good idea to carry prunes on a hike unless you already eat them regularly. They aren't just fibrous, they have laxative qualities. You don't need that unless you actually need that. One prune can and will lubricate you very well.
The Big Agnes and the LanShan Pro have really good reviews. Can I get a rec on a ultralight 2 person backpack tent? preferrably on the below 300$
depends which is pricier, I plan I training my backpacking in summer and my big trip is fall/winterThe Big Agnes and the LanShan Pro have really good reviews.
Check out Haze Outdoors on YouTube, he has used and reviewed both, and he does serious backpacking trips (at least serious UK trips). Do you need a 4 season, or is 3 season enough?
4 season is definitely pricier, and also will be slightly heavier.depends which is pricier, I plan I training my backpacking in summer and my big trip is fall/winter
