I was following the sticky thread on /v/ when this happened and I don't think I've ever seen /v/ collectively happier than they were last night. You know I only gave a fuck about the game awards because I wanted to see God of War Ragnarok fans seeth when their game lost to Elden Ring, but waking up to see this fucking kid has been an absolute delight.
I hate this excuse.I can kind of understand why they see it as a potential security risk. They don't want copycats thinking anyone can just walk up on stage and interrupt the show, and they want to guarantee the safety of people in the audience. If someone had really wanted to hurt a presenter or winner, they could have.
Unless they do away with the live audience entirely and isolate each person in separate booths on a soundstage, someone can hurt anyone at an event like this if they wanted to. No amount of security will prevent a motivated attacker intent on causing harm.
If they want to hire competent personnel to vet every person trying to walk on-stage, good for them. But Christ, a little levity never hurt anyone and trying to clamp down hard on security to try to prevent this kind of harmless silliness will only make it less enjoyable for everyone involved ... and it won't do a damned thing to stop the antics anyway.
Reminds me of airport security theater, in fact. Air travel safety hasn't changed one bit since the 80's, but it sure is a hell of a lot more aggravating to get to the fucking airplane than it used to be.
It's that "I'm totally getting away with this because nobody can say anything" smirk. It's their biggest tell.*ALWAYS* with that damn AGP smirk. Never fails.
