My lil' bro got one for what must have been Xmas '98. IDR them being in short supply tho'. At least not to same extent as Teletubbies the year before, or Toy Story in '95.

damn, Furbys bring back memories of Nov 1998
At the time, I was working at a retail store. And our retail chain advertised Furbys in their Black Friday add.
And I had to be at work a hour before opening
But, you have to remember, this was when Furbys started showing up in retail, and selling out like crazy
So, when I got to my store, that cold 6am Friday morning, there was a long line for the Furby's
But were sold out without incident, maybe late 90s people were nicer than now
And in all the hype, I did buy one and I kept him, thinking he would be worth more in the following years.
But I was wrong and in the 2000s , gave my Furby away
Moral of the story, sell high.
And the late the 90s were great
this is one insane scary looking Furby, I love it

Sure. I'm weirdly fascinated by all of this. Most furbysonas I see are 'quirky' in some way, autistic, or trans.
There are absolute fucktons of furbys customized to look like the transgender flag btw. Such as the custom furby below.

I adored my Furby. Even carried it around in a cute Furby backpack. Sure I’d turn him upside down and later feel kind of bad for laughing but I had that thing for what... a few years? I gave it away and grew up. It was a cute toy and I was the exact age demographic. But holy fuck at grown ass adults being so absorbed in a 90’s toy.

It’s extremely obvious to me that most of these people are autistic, but what I wonder is why so many of them are “trans”. I assume they’re transtrenders and not actual transgender people.
It just seems so weird that so many obsessive fandoms (Furby, Overwatch, Tamagotchi, that squid game) are full of autistic trans people who want to kill each other for having opposing opinions, or opinions that don’t fall perfectly in line with what the herd thinks.
What about being “trans” attracts autistic people so much? (I’m referring to legitimately autistic people, not the fake mental illness pissing contests these people have).

It’s a thing that some with autism don’t display as their typical gender or will think or do certain things like a man or woman but I don’t think being trans and being autistic are one in the same, but boy do you get a lot of them grasping at straws to be unique because they don’t embody straight up masculinity or femininity.

I can agree, but I think it’s mostly because they’re so goddamn silly and memeable. And by that, I mean even more than the regular ones already are.idk why but the long furbies are kind of growing on me the more i see them in this thread

won one ages ago in some kinda competition and then lost it a few days later. they were relatively unknown where i lived so it wasn't that big a deal to me, but now i wish i still had it just because of this thread.
