Nomura is like George Lucas. Yeah he 'has nothing to do why all these games suck' but for some reason every project he's around seem to have the same problems.

Lucas was just a producer for Crystal Skull, but tell me that movie didn't feel eerily similar to the prequels.

A lot of is the volume of ideas though. Remake had this issue: where they shoved in pointless crap that it destroyed the pace
The problem it's extremely difficult to tell exactly how much of it is his fault.

According to team interviews he was actually the voice of reason and tried to keep as much of the remake close to the original as possible, at least for part 1 anyway. He didn't even come up with the idea to fight sephiroth at the end if im not mistaken.

Ah but im the guy who liked everything about the prequels. (Crystal skull was alright.)

Ive noticed that for better or worse most square games that dont have him or yoko taro seem to be boring, by the numbers and unwilling to take risks.

I can’t speak about Indiana Jones but I will not take this prequel slander.

>FF stories get increasingly convoluted because they have to justify the dumb shit Nomura insists on

Tbh they shouldn’t bother
Personally I think a lot of that has more to do with the insistence in making more Kingdom Hearts games and not having had a plan to accomodate for future sequels.

Nomura's not as bad about this as others. At the very least I believe he always try's to think one game ahead, because he almost always has (or adds) a secret boss fight against the next games villain along with a secret ending movie.

For example: I remember reading something about him questioning to himself why the "wise" ansem was such an evil idiot and came up with the explanation ahead of KH2

I do think he had significant problems making KH3, but after that he seems to know what he wants. It felt like he made it to get to the parts he actually wanted to do.

With all due respect, that's not good enough especially the latter part about adding a secret boss and a secret ending. That's just teasing, and I certainly don't recall Nomura doing that with the original game or the following game boy game.

As for Nomura not being as bad as others...where are you coming from with this? Besides whomever it was that was behind the FF13 games, no one in Square or even outside has the reputation that Nomura has regarding their writing/story telling abilities (or lack thereof) the possible exception of Hideo freaking Kojima. And we all know about Kojima's reputation....

There was a Japanese only expansion pack for KH1 that added new bosses, mechanics and enemy's called Final mix. Japan got it the same year it released in December. KH 2 and birth by sleep would get the same sort of expansions as well.

It was pretty wild because KH Rechain of memory's came as a packaged deal with KH 2FM. That's why it kinda feels half baked, it wasn't really designed to stand on its own. Eventually we would get this content in the 1.5 and 2.5 remaster collections.

That's kinda my point. who else has a rep for making games that turn eye brows? Sure FF12 is good, FF10 is ok and such but who else in square, let alone the industry has a consistent reputation for making new unique and entertaining works that build on top of each other? (maybe yakuza?)

I dont consider Kojima to be on his level in all honesty. He is very good at ripping shit off and pasting it together but he's not truly innovative in how he does things.

Besides Nomura there's yoko Taro. That dude is insane in a good way, but I hate actually playing his games though. You cant win em all I guess.

I think Nomura’s a fart huffing loon, but sometimes that lunacy produces something truly unique. The older Kingdom Hearts games absolutely have merit, and TWEWY has no right to be as good as it is. Of course, it’s been years since those games came out, and the man has since completely gone off the deep end. He might be entertaining from a distance, but I’ll be damned if I touch another one of his games.

FF 16 is selling 2 DLC Story packs. and just released a free costume pack. They didn't make bank on the base release.

Also in other news apparently the FF7 remake is coming to switch 2 in an alleged next gen leak from some guy on twitter.

Can I ask where he lost you exactly? He's not perfect by any means but he's the kind of guy where even his worst works are interesting. (Coded)

Following up Kingdom Hearts 2 with multiple mediocre titles each spread across a different platform before concluding the story with a game that is less relevant to the plot than the mobile gacha game and spends more time setting up for a sequel than it does resolving its own narrative. The 10 year wait for a half finished Versus didn’t help, but it was watching the credits to Kingdom Hearts 3 roll that I realised I was utterly done with Nomura.

I liked the side storys. They did start getting old around dream drop, but people forget they cranked those all out pretty quick. A game every year From 2008 to 2011. And aside from coded (which originally was just a phone game before becoming a glorified KH 1 DS port) I thought all of the plots were pretty good, gameplay didn't always translate as well on the console re releases, but they were cool at setting up the next arc.

I... honestly did have the same feeling you did for a little while after beating KH 3. Then I did my research and figured out what was going on.

Nomura got blindsided by having his versus team torn in half to fix the fuck up that was FF14. I am very much of the understanding his priority was making Versus on ps3 before KH3, and when that went to hell in a handbasket it screwed over his plans and put him in a bad place. Everything ive read indicates he had no say in getting taken off the project that became 15. Square enix shipped it out incomplete and gutted of content in order to get enough money to save the company's ass.

On top of that they announced KH3 wayyy too early for his liking and basically forced his hand. You can 100% percent tell his heart was not in this, not to mention the CONSTANT interface from various Disney studios. It literally took FUCKING YEARS to get Rapunzel's hair right and get the ok from pixar and the big hero 6 guys for every little bit of original design and story.

When it was all said and done KH3 was a lengthy tech demo. But for all my many criticisms of the game Remind fixed it.

Remind completely saved this game in my eyes. Not only fixing up the gameplay while adding some of the best secret boss fights in the entire series. It literally fixed every plot complaint I had at the end of the game with the extended ending. It gave everyone something to do and had a much more sweet then bitter take on sora leaving. It was literally the Mass effect 3 ending if it actually fixed the story 100%.

Oh and xehanort is voiced by doc brown now.

Im honestly excited for what comes next. I really do believe he and his team got their mojo back.

Oh and in more final fantasy 7 nomura news : Ever crisis launches on the 7th very soon. Im gonna play the shit out of that. I got to play some of the beta and it was pretty dam charming.

Is anyone else playing Ever Crisis? The game can just play itself with minimal input so I’ve been trying to zoom past all the shit I’ve seen a billion times once before. I like the art style though! In that sense it feels like a true remake imo.

Im that guy who does everything manually. Cant stand the idea of just letting the robot play it when its supposed to be a dam game. (auto equip is a godsend however)

Im having fun, it looks really good for a mobile game and they did do a good job on the art style. The combat system feels a lot better then most. It's basically real time turn based, with equipable moves, limit breaks and a shield stance system.

There was some minor points of confusion because the game trims a lot of fat and alters some segments but that's all for convivence's sake. The devs have clarified that this is basically the OG timeline made to fit the look of the remake. It's all mission based so dont expect to wander around and explore too much. I like how they have expanded slice of life segments to spice things up in between the canon events.

One little annoying thing, you cant immediately get to the OC content until after getting past a chunk amount of the FF7 and Crisis Core missions. Everything about the lore ive heard sounds cool though. The new characters in that are completely unaugmented people who are getting progressively phased out by the new Solider program.

My biggest issues with Kingdom Hearts is putting important lore and story information behind a mobile game. Also I’m worried about who ever voices old man Xehanort, because Doc Brown is like the third actor to voice now isn’t he? Could be a curse on that character lol.

Yeah for better or worse Nomura actually gives a shit about making the plot of the mobile games interesting. So there's a lot of background detail's you'll miss otherwise. I dont think it's as bad as missing the handheld games (for now) but yeah it's likely gonna shape up to be a pretty big deal come 4

They were nice enough to make a cool movie that fills in what started the first major keyblade conflict and where they come from, but it's like watching a three act film with the 3rd act missing. If you want more details you're gonna have to watch the mobile game cutscenes online or read tv tropes.

Basically the main thing you need to watch out for is this guy The master of masters
1694129370960.png

He may turn out to be the next best villain in the franchise, because boy does he have charisma and charm. To sum it up, While acting like the most pleasant, friendly and funny mentor possible, he sets up a situation where all his apprentices and multitude of keyblade kids turn on and kill each other.

He basically uses children as human sacrifices to contain and kill the eldritch abominations that spawned the heartless. His background, identity, and power is unknown. Only that he's been fighting "darkness" his entire life and is responsible for the creation and bestowing of the keyblades (and black anti darkness cloaks). He is the man behind xehanort, and has been pulling strings, destroying lives and worlds over generations of years to get a clear shot at killing formless sentient shadows capable of possessing anyone.

It's a surprisingly awesome storyline when you piece it all together.

I believe they are sticking with young Xehanort right now if they bring him back, but yeah two English and 1 Jap VA died voicing him sadly.

I dont know, man. The more i read into it the more i wanna go back to “chosen boy sets out on a journey to save his friends across different Disney worlds”

Speaking of KH villians, i’d argue KH2 Xemnas was the best one by far. Had presence, a sympathetic goal, an awesome final battle with a kickass ost to boot, and a sort of tragic final send off considering the characters’ motivation
(i really believe Nomura started making shit up as he went on, how do you go from “unfortunately, i can’t feel anything” to “lmao im back and btw i was actually just a lackey for the REAL Org XIII and all of my previous build up is worth shit now”)

Lost all interest in Xehanort the moment he was somehow able to orchestrate and perform this ridiculously complicated plan full of Ex Machinas and faggotry, only to end it all up with a “i was just misunderstood!” shit sandwich. Please, just kill the damn character off already!

MoM is just Xehanort 2.0, an extremely convoluted plan that depends on every single person taking part in it being an absolute fucking retard, but hey! “Tee hee hee! I know more than what i’m letting on! Tee hee hee!”

Guy who voices him does a phenomenal job though i’ll give him that

TLDR: Why the fuck do i like this series!?
