The showcase felt like one half showcasing generic RPG shit (World map! Quests! Crafting!), and one half overtipping their hand on the Eikon battles - of which I can’t imagine there are many.

I can’t tell how this is going to turn out, but I’m not holding me breath. As an RPG it looks pretty shallow and the plot hasn't grabbed me. As an action game it remains to be seen if there is actual depth to the combat if it’s all particles and QTEs.

Kotaku is not invited to see the Final Fantasy XVI preview event. I wonder why?

Edit: Image is still being a dick.
Based af Square-Enix, hopefully after that niggress game flopped magnificently they'll drop all the woke shit if FF16 does well. Still irks me turn-based is dead but that's been the case a while, at least the game looks good for what it is.

The only problem now is the PS5 times exclusivity, what a dumb fucking thing to do. It'll be even worse if they put it on EGS before Steam again.

I have been playing thorugh FFXII ( I am still on in the first city) and apart from the vocies sounding off (I think it is with the audio itself) I am kinda digging.
Yes, Vann looks like a wanker, but the combat is really nice,,.

For me personally, this new combat system is a dream come true. I don’t mind turn based combat, and FF7, FF9, and FF10 are some of my favorite games. But I like the story, characters, and soundtrack of those games. This is the most fun looking gameplay I’ve seen in a while out of a video game. So if it has everything a final fantasy game has, plus great gameplay, I’m all for it. I get why people like turn based though because we all have different tastes.

I'm interested in the combat, though I really need to know how much end lag and other potential moveset clunk this game has because KH games are like 50/50 on having acceptable end lag on the big flashy moves and that's the best overall action JRPG series SE has made. I just really hope these accessory slots or whatever do more than give you bullshit like auto dodge. I don't personally care anymore if people want to cruise by using in-game "accessibility" features like this, but I like it when games let players who want to play the combat normally feel rewarded in some way and not just have a dead feature. Like give me an accessory to modify my moveset in some way at the cost of not letting me auto dodge attacks. I don't need much, just give me something. It'll make it more interesting than "Geez what easy mode feature I do equip?!" like it seems to be so far.

I also hope they don't try to balance the game with this bullshit, that'll really kill my mood if they use "just equip auto dodge lol" as a cheap excuse to make some bullshit bosses to justify the existence of this feature to non-game journalists.

From the way Yoshi P has talked about it, the journalist accessories are purely optional. If you don't want them, don't use them. I highly doubt anything is balanced around their existence

From the footage that I’ve seen the only equipment effect that wasn’t a flat attack or defence increase was “reduce the cooldown of this specific ability by 2.6 seconds”.

The journalist mode accessories could be interesting if they had a drawback associated with them, say costing meter every time they proc. That way they could act as training wheels without overshadowing normal equipment.

I don't get why people who want an action game didn't just play Strangers of Paradise. It's unlikely the combat in 16 will be as good as the combat in that

I don't know if these combat systems at that similar beyond not being turn based and being an RPG. Even just a basic skim of the footage shows that one is more wait, parry, and punish based while you keep your feet firmly on the floor with SOP. While 16 seems to want to let you be far more aggressive and proactive with its sweeping swings to control mobs, knock ups, faster projectiles, quick gap closers, and more air combat options than what I recall SOP having. Plus 3 Eikons vs 2 jobs is another relevant enough change to how the combat flows and what it'll let you do depending on how diverse the Eikon modes actually are.

It is like comparing KH with Souls, and not just because of the difficulty. Those two games are just far too different in what your character is able to do even if you make KH just as punishing as Souls (as seen with Yozora, Lingering Will, or both Data Orgs).

Sorry if this thread is not for this type of thing but I had to share this for the thumbnail alone
Some highlights:
>video starts off with him saying "any attempt to argue or debate with me about talking points will be banned because I don't tolerate neo nazis"
>video goes from anti-Japanese racism to full-on QAnon conspiracy
>"Yoshi-P is brainwashed into thinking he's white"
He also brings up a bunch statistics out of his ass and doesn't source any of them

Believe it or not, this guy might be the most numerate Final Fantasy fan there is

Does anyone here know if the 7th Heaven mod uses the ReMAKO texture pack? Has anyone here tried to install it on Steam Deck?

Have you come across any of 12's version of Malboros? If not you're in for a treat.

Different style of game. SoP plays more like Nioh and FFXVI plays more like DMC. They may both be action games but neither play the same at all. Also you can’t have the scale of a game like FFXVI with a spin-off.

(And I did play SoP)

Have not yet.
Have put the game on the backburner as my autism is demanding that I finsh the KH games.
Anyway, what do people think about FF: The Spirths Within?
I know it has fuck all to do with Final Fantasy, but I find it to be such a fascinating movie to watch.
the Sci-Fi style is very neat but the story is hot garbage.

I saw it in theaters when it was new. I remember sitting there the whole time wondering when the Final Fantasy stuff was going to happen...it never did. If it wasn't titled Final Fantasy then I would have judged it as a mediocre sci-fi movie.

Underrated but still only decent. I like it, still think it looks pretty good too. It's too bad they're never going to touch it again with a remaster or game tie-in or anything.

I got it on DVD when I was a kid, I watched it maybe 3-4 times, and I can't remember a single thing about it. All I know was that I was very impressed by the visuals:

Those are crazy good for 2001, but if I watched it today, the movie might look like a puppet show.

I'll admit, the idea of having the character of Aki Ross from Spirits Within being an actress who would appear in other films was really interesting, and I kind of wish that that happened.

Course, the film bombing hard, bankrupting Square Pictures, throwing Squaresoft into complete chaos, and arguably leading to the departure of Sakaguchi (who directed the film) put all those plans to rest.
