The pleroma backend is 500'ing for any of a number of reasons (db timeouts, etc) but it's kinda a meme among users that when the server is chooching hard enough pleroma just throws errors and you get error message spam on the frontend. It just means it's working very hard to deliver you The Best the fediverse has to offer.
 
I made an account under the same name so you can add me and we can be friends and kiss on the mouth sometimes in secret. I can't upload an avatar or edit my profile without getting the fetching 500 error still.
 
So why are we on the Fediverse if it has the reputation as a chomo shelter. Yeah I know bad actors are bad actors similar to Telegram but I can’t separate it from Graf

we can see poa.st just fine but apparently poa.st users cant see us

Defederation is just one-sided, you’re still subject to seeing the users of that instance and some of them love spamming obscene content.
