Is Poast federated? We need to stop viewing the fediverse as "this instance" or "that instance." The entire purpose is so that different instances can talk to each other and anyone can host their own. Defederation also doesn't matter. The purpose of the fediverse is so that there are different "sections" that appeal to different people.I don't get the animosity. I was around back then and Poast was fine for a pitstop but it was never really a final home, and the more time went on the more issues came up. The reason TVA became a thing was because the future of KF was unsure and Poast wasn't something that appealed to many of the users who went there temporarily during the downtime. It survived not because people didn't like KF but because it offered something different and people still use both who were there for the origins, but most if not all don't use Poast. Mostly because Poast uses a format that doesn't appeal to forum users.
Anyway, who remembers Chub buds?
We won't have free speech areas of the fediverse unless we build and use them.
Here's a federated, free speech Lemmy instance (the federated reddit alternative): https://lemmychan.org. It's defederated from most of the "big" instances, but that doesn't matter. Anyone can join it or make their own (including you!) with their own rules. I don't think people realize the importance of this, but when they do we should hopefully see an explosion of free speech instances.
