There is no thread about it so I made one. I'm sure there are a few fans of The Expanse here.
Owlcat has released a new trailer for their game, they finally showed some gameplay.

I wonder how long this has been in development? The novels and TV show have been over for a few years now.

Looking forward to it.

Owlcat's games are always rushed, buggy, and incomplete at release but I've still really enjoyed all of them. I'll probably do my usual of playing it when it's first released and then again 2 - 4 years later once they've released all the expansions and content updates.

I know I saw people talking about this way back when it was revealed, but I totally forgot this was being made.

I absolutely fucking suck at these turn-based party RPGs and I have literally zero knowledge of The Expanse franchise whatsoever (I wouldn't have known it was a show if I hadn't seen the posts above) -- but I've had this RPG itch lately that nothing has managed to scratch, so I might scoop up a copy from an Internet Boating Accident and see what this is like.

I agree that Owlcat's output is inconsistent as fuck but I'm confident they'll at least do the sauce material some justice: Rogue Trader was modern 40k instead of 1st Edition 40k (which I get because 1e was super fucking silly and won't appeal to 99% of people) but I reckon it still did a really good job of getting most of the modern 40k "world" right, and importantly to me, rewarding you for trying to roleplay an actual universe-savvy character. Playing a Commissar gave me so many opportunities to lean into actual Commissar behaviors like executing dissenters with an Inferno Pistol at the drop of a hat.

I like the hard sci-fi feel of this setting, but could never get into the series, this game seems to be an aptly titillating experience for it.

Why not make something original
Probably for the same reason Silent Hill F and many other games have IPs stapled to them when they could be their own thing:

Original product means more risk. Risk means less chance of profit. Therefore, established IP and brand name over new IP every single time.

Hopefully there won't be Holden and Naomi in it. And if they are, you should have the option to murder them. I liked the books for their setting and most side characters but Holden and Naomi drag them down a lot. And they are even worse in TV show.

On top of that, the thing that irritates me is that there's no ship combat, which was the highlight of the show.

There's nothing special or unique about the on-foot combat in the Expanse universe, it's bog-standard and will likely play like any other third-person shooter, and probably significantly worse since Owlcat games have shit gameplay and lack polish.

Meanwhile, the game will feature no ship combat, just like ME.

We're in the year 2026 and the big budget sci-fi ME clone has no ship combat, which would have been the most interesting aspect of the gameplay.

Instead you're going to be stuck cowering behind a wall and shooting at ugly nigger girlbosses dressed in silly power armor, pretending you're playing an RPG.

What's so interesting about the setting?
I know there's books and a show, but is it that popular?
Why not make something original and go the Mass Effect route and have us bang blue alien sluts?
The show didn't go enough into the setting
