that question is phrased in Girard's framework and it gives him the benefit of the doubt.
the real question is why was the money not paid out immediately to the institutions he claimed he was paying out to.
he was obviously keeping it. 'no charity is good enough for me' isn't an excuse when he name drops charities to rake in cash and lies about paying them.
 
Honestly sad to see him becoming a portential careercow. I met him when he came to London a month or so ago and he seemed like a pretty hilarious and chill guy. Sad to hear he’s possibly a scumbag too.
 
One of the greatest ironies of this whole thing is that almost all dementia/alzheimer's research for like the last decade has been worthless due to a research paper with made up data leading everyone to pour billions of funding into a lie. So that money he's squatting on would have been washed if he had donated it.

This is the laziest form of embezzlement I've ever seen. The money is just sitting there. I would have respected him if he spent it on hookers and blow, cause atleast you're using the money. But he's doing nothing. The fuck is he's end game?

Is there any definitive evidence that the money is there? I don't know how charities and shit work, so I imagine the money is or was sitting in a bank account. But until the IRS comes around and ask questions; who actually documents where the money goes, or if it even leaves the account? Because if it's all in house accounting and they just send the paperwork to the IRS at the end of the fiscal year, there's nothing stopping anyone from draining the account and telling the IRS that most of the money is still there.

It very well may have been spent on hookers and blow, it's not like they're going to put that in the filings. Those filings aren't audited by anyone by the way. The accountant just types up whatever Quickbooks file you give them and faces no consequence if it's all bullshit.

I can think of two potential answers to this.

First, while Karl usually talks about speedrunners, he was also the guy who got people looking at the WATA Games/Heritage Auction price-gouging scam. personal example but whenever I mention Jobst, that coverage is the only thing anyone knows him for.

But this leads to my second theory: Like you said, Jobst usually covers speedrunners. Scams aren't really his thing.... which ironically means that when he does cover one, its a bigger deal. If Mutahar covered this by himself, as a guy who covers controversy routinely, it might not have gotten any attention, but the fact Karl covered it probably gave it more legitimacy in people's eyes.

To use an autistic analogy: If Batman says someone is criminal scum, that's just Batman being Batman. If Superman says it, then its probably true. (If you'll forgive me comparing Karl to Superman).
 
The money isn't there. I am extremely doubtful over half a million dollars is just sitting in a bank account all because of incompetence and failing to find a proper organization to hand it off to.
 
I never give money to ecelebs, especially those who team up with the indieshit scene.
 
Him saying that he can't find a suitable charity is really weird. I know that the Vsauce channels help raise money for the alzheimer's association from their subscription boxes. From a cursory glance they seem to be the real deal with people saying that the alzheimer's association actually helped their family members who are afflicted with alzheimer's and dementia. Their front page even says one of their main focuses is dementia research. That $600,000 would help a lot. Or is it because he can't control that it only goes to research and he doesn't want the money to go to treatment?
