Sorry to power level here... I took film courses in college and I sent a few of his reviews to one of the professors there. They weren't impressed. They didn't feel his reviews were written at a professional level, and they felt he added unnecessary fluff to seem smarter than he actually was. They'd seen better papers in Intro to Film.
Well, his criticism is definitely not on the level of actual/academic film criticism. Film criticism as an area of study is not about whether a film is "good" or not. Cole never ventures into anything that a student of film or film criticism would discuss. His criticism is--to use a phrase I dislike--rather pedestrian. His "voice" as a writer is horrible. He absolutely hates contemporary pop culture, and stupidly believes that this makes him unique. He tries to shoehorn in non sequitur political statements. He has a baseless appreciation for the "classics." He completely misunderstands/misreads themes and plot points. He stinks.

His top video on youtube has 516k views. Kinda impressive. Or it would be if he had not bought the views. That video with 516,000 views has about 200 ratings and only 5 comments. Fewer than 0.00097% of "viewers" have left a comment. How is that even possible? The film it covers is very controversial and produces very strong opinions (it was shown in a banned and censored film course I took in college). Vids of my kitty on youtube have received more comments. In another video about Youtube scamming creators, Cole mentions that he has over 1.5 million views. Cole really is as deluded as his brothersister. How long before he finds his female soul and starts going by Colette?

My guess is that if he didn't buy those views, it's just a very popular search phrase because of its content and people are looking for fap material. So they click on it and realize they're just looking at an aging hipster douchebag babbling like an idiot and move on.

The viewer response rate is too low. One out of every 125,000 viewers wrote a comment (Cole wrote the other one). One in every 2500 has clicked a rating button (can you rate your own videos? One of those might be Cole's as well...) It is so out of whack with the rest of youtube. Other reviews get consistent real views ranging from 10k-500k according to a quick search just now. They get rating rate of 1-10% and comment rate around 1-5%. They have several thousand to tens of thousands of subscribers. It is all consistent. Cole gets less than 100 views and 0 comments on most videos. Though he did get 2 comments on 60 views for a recent vid. It was of his kitties.

The bulk of his youtube views are fake. I would absolutely love to see his stats. I would guess than maybe 1000 of the 516,000 views are real. And most of them came because the video is ranked higher because of the fake views.

Good point. Although the fake views may have had a snowball effect of some sort.

I'd expect some portion of people seeing Cole for the first time to at least take a moment to insult him.

I would actually argue Cole is more deluded than Chris. Chris is deluded, yes, but his delusion has some basis in that there is clearly quite a bit of interest in him. The CWCki and these very forums existing are proof enough, as is the fact that anyone even cared about Cole outside the Toy Story 3 debacle. As has been stated, the only reason he's noteworthy at all is because of being related to Chris. Cole also unironically calls himself "The Smartest Film Critic in the World," has a Patreon perk of having beers with him, auctioned off dinners with himself on eBay prior to starting his Patreon, and, as stated before, claims Freddy Got Fingered is classic cinema. Sorry, I'm not letting that go. I've said it before: no movie that involves a man spraying his father with elephant spooge is classic anything. Also, his hatred of pop culture just makes him even more pretentious. While I admit pop culture isn't perfect, there is good stuff in it. He's trying to be like Roger Ebert, but instead comes off as a 19-year-old trust fund douche.

The main thing is that Chris doesn't know any better. He was born with a mental disability, he still lives at home, can't hold down a job, etc.
Cole has a wife, friends, seems to at least be mentally competent, etc. There is no excuse for him to be this deluded.

That's what makes him all the more odd. He shouldn't be this deluded, and yet, he is.

As much as Cole would hate to admit it, it's the Weston arrogance coming out.

Babs ignores that she is living in a vermin-infested hovel that's over half full of hoarded garbage and instead thinks that claiming to be a descendant of Anne Boleyn makes her special. CWC scribbled out a shitty Sonic recolor comic and thought it got him over one billion fans and Nintendo wanted to turn it into their next franchise.

Given that Cole actually has a few accomplishments under his belt (he graduated from college, he used to play in a couple of local rock bands, and he is a featured critic on Rotten Tomatoes) it kind of stands to reason that he would also think he's far more important than he actually is.

We always had this assumption that Cole was free from :autism::autism::autism:. Frankly, I'd like to see a diagnosis before I draw a conclusion.
Autistic people sperg away regardless of whether anyone is interested or not. Cole spergs away with the specific intention of appearing smart. He's less autistic, more pompous.

Also, his situation he is thought to have, with his wife supporting him while he pursues his dream, seems like a career choice someone autistic would have very dispropotionate difficulty with. It's not like he's a model or somehing, so his social skills and charm or whatever is apparently worth enough for wife to be effectively trading economic capital for his company.

You know, Cole would get a lot more real views and some legit attention if he'd just... do a video on his childhood. According to him, Barb was a bad parent in exactly the way people are interested in hearing about. Not to mention his search for his real father.

But then it wouldn't be about his insight into hipster films!

Cole would delete that stuff. There should be more positive or neutral reactions, even if the videos were shown to students or some captive group. A number of them greater than four would some opinion that they wanted to share with C. Smithey. Porn videos get more comments than that.

People would mention the movie itself, too. The film ends with the woman cutting off a guy's pickle. Even if people are not impressed with Cole's movie knowledge and opinions, they would have some reaction to that.

Cole is just as dumb as his quarter-trans half-sister. He thinks that he can fake his way to stardom and acclaim. The only time he got any recognition at all is when Ebert mocked his stupidity, though Cole probably sees this as two celebrity critics talking shop.

I'm pretty sure he cares more about his "insightful views" and making other people pay bar tabs than his birth dad these days.
