They're coming out with a new Carmen Sandiego game for the first time in a long time.

Apparently its got elements from the Netflix series (not a bad show actually, there are so many references and things to both the game shows, computer games, and the 90s cartoon to the point Rita Moreno is in a couple episodes)

Previews are saying it still holds true to that educational aspect but in a way you wouldn't really notice.

It'll never happen but oh how I'd love for Aspyr or something to remaster the 90s games

She's not a master criminal you chase down around the world, shes a girlboss vigilante now fighting crime.

I'm old and this is another cool thing from my childhood ruined by nons and their desperate need to be validated while ruining everything.

I will say one thing, Carmen Sandiego has a very distinctive style that I haven’t seen anyone else try to steal.

In fact I think Ada Wong from the resident evil franchise was inspired by her. Like who wears a red dress on a dangerous mission? Only a girl that likes to make an appearance lol

The owner and creator of Carmen San Diego is an autist who will not allow anyone to work on his franchise unless he has full control. It's why there aren't loads of CSD rip-offs and spin-offs, though I would kill for a proper live-action CSD film.

The Netflix show is actually a very good watch and is CSD:Origins in a way which is fun and has some cool twists.

This game may be shit or not as a game, I've no idea, but sweaty woke shite won't be allowed to ruin the CSD name or reputation.`

Eh, you never know. I'm not very familiar with Carmen Sandiego but if this is anything like Lupin the Third, it might just turn out by accident to be pretty good.

The "hard mode" in the final round of the PBS game show was the Africa map.

(This kid did fine.)

I remember this from when I was a kid in the 90's. But vaguely.

I never got into it. I remember Where's Waldo more.

She sneaks around the world from Kiev to Carolina ☑️

She's a sticky fingered filcher from Berlin down to Belize ❌

She'll take you for a ride on a slow boat to China ❔

It's not looking good so far.

I found out the CD-ROM games work great in DOSbox in a fit of nostalgia-fueled autism a while back.

Unfortunately playing a children's geography game when you're closing in on 40 just isn't the same as when you were in the second grade.
Partly because it was supposed to be hard. There were different versions but if the hint was "She said she was going to her exchange money for krones" (and by the way, Carmen Sandiego was the last suspect of "V.I.L.E." you always caught), there wasn't an Internet you could look up and cheese the game with, you had to look it up in a print almanac (which I think the games included).

I thought it was because it got screwed over in a series of M&As that had it under control of a textbook company for a while.

Lynne Thigpen was an icon and I hate that she died too soon.

Carmen in the Netflix show...yes they rewrote her but she does at least steal shit for the fun of it. I did not expect the show to have so many nods and easter eggs either.

This was my favorite aside from World. I remember the Inca and Columbus levels being genuinely hard.

Looks like Exo’s Learning Pack has the dos games to play. It’s a shame they aren’t on Steam because I’d buy the shit out of that series.

The owner just really likes his creation and won't see it get shit on. He's autistic about it, probably to his detriment a little bit as CSD is a genuinely interesting female character on the lines of OG Lara Croft.

Respect to him for sticking to his guns though.

But how? Wikipedia says HarperCollins is the owner, which makes sense as it was Brøderbund until 1998 when it was bought by The Learning Co. Inc. (SoftKey), then Mattel in 1999 when they bought The Learning Co. Inc., then The Gores Group which sold most of the entertainment assets to Ubisoft (that's when I learned to hate Ubisoft and my perceived mismanagement of those assets) but Carmen Sandiego was considered "educational" so it got sold to Riverdeep in 2001. Then Riverdeep bought Houghton Mifflin and became Houghton Mifflin Riverdeep Group in 2006...then HMR bought Reed Elsevier's Harcourt division (with other assets) and became Houghton Mifflin Harcourt in 2007...then they sold one of their divisions (HMH Books & Media) that had Carmen Sandiego and Oregon Trail to HarperCollins...which is owned by News Corporation (the one that spun off from the "old" News Corporation, later renamed 21st Century Fox before Disney bought it).
