Homelander did have his powers when he was young but it was established (as you pointed out) that he was overtly both emotionally and physically tortured as a child in Season 4:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=FIU-fddSDpUhttps://youtube.com/watch?v=rqW5MhMz0ls
Vought scientists put him an oven and would raise the temperature to the point he was screaming in agony while his tears sizzled away so it's not like the character was invulnerable to pain and suffering his entire life.

So the kind and understanding liberals on the show created a character who went nuts because he was tortured all of his life and then they want us to laugh as he is beaten to death and begs for his life?

At what point are these people going to ask themselves "Are we the baddies?"

That little detail is WAY too clever for it to have been done on purpose (and with purpose) by these people.
The crown of thorns was part of the humiliation at the hands of the Romans that Jesus endured on the way to Golgotha. Jews like Kripke and Rogen hate Jesus and Christians; what better way to mock Jesus on the show than turn him into a figurative puppet- a literal false prophet- who (along with his followers) are only pretending to suffer?

The show never missed an opportunity to parade its producers’ loxism at every turn.

Watching these clips is infuriating.

This show did not deserve Antony Starr, for starters. Holy crap, what great acting.

Secondly, these clips definitely make you not completely "side" with Homelander per se, but definitely understand him better and root for him to take out these particularly awful people. lol.

But ... Nah. Let's forget nuance. Let's forget the potential this character had. Let's make him a little cartoonish bitch at the end, because we need to "own" Trump and Christianity?

If this series is supposed to be a deconstruction of superheroes and supervillains, then isn't it a bit reductive to eliminate any and all nuance from your main villain and just make him a sniveling little bitch at the end because "the audience wants to see the bad guy 'get it.'"?

I completely understand why Antony Starr is distancing himself politically from the writers of this show. Politics is what torpedoed and tanked this show, which had a lot of potential to be something really good.

The reactions from both the remaining show defenders and kripke himself have made it abundently clear that they genuinely do not give a fuck about this show whatsoever as an actual show, they only care about it as a political masturbation session.

It doesn't matter how poorly written, wasteful, unpopular and unsatisfying it is, so long as it makes "The Chuds" on twitter mad, they won and it's good.

This isn't even an exaggeration or hyperbole, Kripke directly said that the best review he could've possibly gotten was Elon Musk saying it sucked, and all the highest liked posts desperately attempting to defend the finale are outright saying that it making people they don't like on twitter mad and the official amazon account making Charlie Kirk jokes was the best possible ending the show could've had.

Not being well written, or having a satisfying ending, or actually wrapping up 5 seasons of plotlines that people have spent 7 years and two tv shows being invested in.

Twitter beef.

The best possible way for this TELEVISION SHOW to end to these people is for it to enable them to ratio people on twitter and literally nothing else. That's all that matters, quick dopamine hits from dunking on their political enemies right this very nanosecond on social media.

That's the show's legacy now.

This is an argument of degrees, based on subjective personal opinions. I say it was intended to demonstrate how irredeemably broken and twisted the members of G-Wiz are, you say “yes but did it have to be so extreme?”
There is no reconciliation of these two points. Could it have been toned down? Absolutely. But would it have conveyed the same message, if so? Almost certainly not. It was in line with much of the tone of the rest of the books, though.
If the books aren’t to your taste, that’s fine, but that doesn’t make your position ‘right’, any more than my position that the scene in question was thematically appropriate makes me ‘right’ either.
I hate faggots like you the most. Slimy shits that believe sounding smart is the same as being smart.

The topic was if the comics are edgy slop or not. Remember? Let me refresh your faggot memory.
Be especially wary of people who dismiss the comics as edgy slop, they’re just proving they either didn’t read them or don’t understand them.
Here's what edgy means, just in case
"it often describes someone trying too hard to be dark or shocking".
Could it have been toned down? Absolutely.
Good, you admit it.

Unsubstantiated opinion.

So, you retarded fucking nigger, if he has the option to, but goes instead with something dark and shocking, then it's, by definition, edgy slop.

Unfucking believable, that some faggot comes here and tries to gaslight us into thinking this comic is some unappreciated masterpiece.
IT'S GARBAGE AND YOU'RE A STUPID FUCKING NIGGER.

You're the only one who sniffs his own farts and exalts a fucking comic book like it's a monumental literary achievement.
The people in this thread who read it, saw it for what it was, cheap edgy slop. And while we might partake in it, nobody is gonna make the same claims you did, because only a stupid fucking nigger does that.
Get me, stupid fucking nigger?

This show was never going to be that, the original comic had it's juvenile humor but examined a whole different range of themes that balanced it pretty well.

Seth Rogen was involved, any hope for anything resembling nuance or anything deep went right out the window because this retarded stoner faggot jew saw everything at the surface level and ran with it because his priority was seeing how many sex jokes, gross out gags, and excess swearing he could cram into an episode because he has the sense of humor of a twelve year old and pretends to be some deep thinking man. I like my juvenile, immature humor too but I'm fucking honest about it. Then he got an equally retarded faggot jew to be his butt buddy for the showrunner, the kicker here is Kripke has made some good shows but it looks like we now know what he looks like without the restraints of network TV and surprise, he's a Vince Russo type who needs to be tard wrangled.

All of this to say that nuance was never the goal, it was to be a mean, spiteful, hate-fueled slopfest skinwalking as a deconstruction of superheroes and supervillains.

Are you new to Garth Ennis? Crossed has a scene where some guy gets his young daughter graphically torn to pieces because he thought salt repelled the zombies. This scene is framed like a comedy.

They never will, Leftists are convinced that they should have the right to be violent psychopaths in order to get their way. That it's okay to kill and be violent because it's for a good reason.

You know who else believes in getting their way through violence? Sandniggers who blow shit up.

Pretty much yeah, I have heard his name but never paid money to read one of his books. Sounds like they are not my cup of tea.

I just don't know why you would give a villain a backstory like that and then treat the death that comes from it as anything other than a tragedy, at least if the heroes had taken out the guy who created Homelander in the first place that would have been something and made it go down better for me.

Plenty of people were agreeing that this was a terrible finale, but others are praising it only because it's (say with me now, all together) "OWNING. THE. CHUDS."

Can't disagree with anyone who calls these sorts of people "cattle", they fancy themselves bold and independent but they're easily led around like bulls with rings in their noses.

They’re making a TV series based off Crossed. I have no fucking idea how they’re going to make that fit for TV short of toning it down to The Crazies levels of violence.

It’ll be done with Ridley Scott/Danny Boyle style action scenes with the camera being whipped around like it’s in a tornado and fifteen cuts a second so that everything is a blurry discombobulated mess.

Twelve years on from John Wick and five years on from Nobody and most directors still haven’t figured out that audiences want long-take, coherent, contextual action scenes.
