I strongly contest anyone calling The Boys or any of these deconstruction-type shows "slop". Slop is, by definition, made without passion to appeal to the widest, most lucrative audience possible; there's no investment in the quality or artistic integrity of the final product. That's not to say that The Boys has artistic integrity or quality, but unlike your typical slop, it is animated entirely by spite.

You truly feel Kripke's neurosis and hatred of the goyim radiate from every frame. It's really the only thing that made the show worth paying attention to, if only as a marvel of (ironically, uncut) Jewish psychosis.

SAAR, PLEASE, I'LL SUCK YOUR DICK FOR H1B, I WILL EAT SHIT FOR H1B

IT'S WHAT CLARA WOULD HAVE WANTED SAAR

I disagree, he wasn't just some pathetic manchild still trying to deal with what happened to him during his childhood in this season. His issues escalated to the point where he was seeing an angel tell him he was God and that he would punish the people that didn't believe in him. Those delusions should not have just vanished, he should have been doubling down on them. He should have been an incoherent mess screaming about how he was going to bring his divine vengeance down upon Butcher for even thinking he could be depowered.

I will put this in another way.

I don’t think Homelander has ever been written in an official capacity by anyone that actually liked him, except for how useful he is as a villain. Homelander’s entire selling point is how much of a villain you love to hate he is.

His cameo in Mortal kombat appealed to the people that had fantasies of beating him with Omniman, in his DC crossover, while it failed to deliver, people just wanted Superman beat him. Most fans of the boys root against him in crossovers. I am sure even his creator despises him.

I concede it was poorly written, and the budget complaints. But I am personally not shocked he was humiliated in the end considering what he was meant to be.

Like let me be clear, I don't think Homelander should've been some epic badass and went out in the coolest way possible like being ripped apart ala the comic ending, but the execution here was simply poor.

Having Homelander beg Butcher to kill him because he can't stand the idea of being completely powerless again would've worked far better at showing how pathetic and cowardly he is as a person while also keeping true to what was established about his motivations.
I'd take that idea and have Homelander actively try to push Butcher to kill him. He'd rather have his old nemesis kill him rather than have the world string him up for his betrayal. So he'd push Butcher's buttons, mention Becca and mock Butcher over her death, all to push Butcher into a rage so that he would kill Homelander in a single attack.

I could possibly believe Homelander becoming a bitch boy immediately after losing his powers because that's all the leverage he really had. Don't take my word for it, though, since I stopped watching this show at some point.

Just the way it got to that point: building up so much just to have it crash down in the span of a few episodes. It just reeks of "we got one more season, guys, we gotta end this fucking shit" and it's never worked empirically.
Superhero deconstructions are gay. Not every hero would be a genocidal rapist if they existed in real life.
Superhero deconstructions have been done so much now that it's now toppling over itself. What more is there to deconstruct?

/tv/ is actually kind of fun right now.

Just as the Joker is now inextricably linked to the RAPE of the frigid fall of '24, so too will The Boys' only legacy be that of sodomy and scat.
How appropriate.
