The Boys - An Amazon Prime adaptation of the Ennis comic series

I’m sure Garth Ennis loves what’s happened, because he has a little Seth Rogan in him.

Don’t get me wrong, when he’s good, he’s great. I would even go so far as to put him on, or near, my comic Mt. Rushmore. However, his frat boy humor and the-universe-exists-in-my-ass-where-my-head-resides politics holds him back every time.

The Boys is probably the best work to illustrate the equal good and bad with him. The adaption is channeling the worst of him and that juvenile spirit.

Calling Gen V a bridge to the fourth season is kind of a stretch. I don't think anyone needs to watch Gen V in order to get the gist of season 4. Everything will be addressed accordingly. Hopefully.

Who is the insert? Billy butcher? The same guy that in the comics, they make a point to show much of a scumbag he is?

Hughie is the self insert. He's a young kid reading comics and enthralled in super heroes. He is passionate about super heroes just like Ennis was as a kid. Then super heroes become violent and ugly and repulsive. They kill Hughie's girlfriend and therefore kill his love for super heroes. He goes on to hate what super heroes have become and wants them all killed. And eventually he has to become one to do the job. Just like Ennis had to write a super hero comic......to mock super hero comics and show his disgust at them.

Butcher is clearly a parody of the Punisher and probably some other comic characters.
 
I’m so surprised to find insightful analysis of shrinking girl’s prospects.

I can’t hold it in I have to shitpost about the Asian-magic-lady-boy.

First, I actually had the slimmest bit of hope that the character wouldn’t be the most mind-rotting tranny simile of all time because I’m retarded and it wasn’t the worst thing ever but only because they made no point whatsoever.

Points to the Boys:

It seems to switch from m to f in defensive combat or to make a point which would make sense.

It ‘s a bi but expects everyone else to be the same.

Everyone is weirded out when it switches.
Points they missed:
If they made some insightful kathoey or whatever commentary idk I’m not chinky.

They could have made a meaningful analysis of the differences in expectations based on which sex one appeared to be but instead it gets boolied and based dad tells it to just be a boy.

It obviously would very early be taught to switch before defensive situations - that foot of height between the actors would not be wasted.

How does it’s genitalia work? In the same episode they show a cgi dick they can’t talk about how tf a functional hermaphrodite would work?

Follow-up: What is that weird noise when it switches? Is that the dick popping out of existence or something more… innie-outtie?

Additionally, all of the other supes have a traumatic backstory but the one who was previously a normal boy didn’t have anything notable happen when it dissociated from its body?

Kate should convince it to 41% to finalize the simile.

It’s limp-wristed, woke trash and ya hate to see it.

Yea. It's why people liked the boys and why season 1 was so great.

It's like some exec board was like "people like this show cause it's superheroes, so we have to copy what worked from other superhero. Also, now we try to compete with other superhero universes with our own universe. That's what makes us MONEY $$$!"

Well I started watching The Boys recently, enjoyed season 1, and things turned to shit in season two with the whole 'NAZIS ARE BAD DID YOU KNOW NAZIS ARE BAD?' bullshit. Is it worth going to Season 3 or is it all downhill from here?

Did you enjoy watching Game of Thrones as it spiraled into mediocrity? Because The Boys is basically in that territory or rapidly plummeting towards it. Season three is an incline from the second season but the finale is a massive disaster for all characters and the entire plot. At the end of season three they almost reset the show back to where all of the characters are in the first season. Imagine if more than halfway through a story the characters out of nowhere decided to forget all of the lessons and things that they had learned, and started their lives over from page one, with no explanation. But not in some time loop or time travel scenario......just because the writing was horrendous and all character development was trashed.

And now instead of furthering the plot we are at a dead standstill. As season three leads into a spinoff series, GenV, that was not allowed to advanced the plot into season four or spoil any future development. So you get eight episodes of the spinoff where they are essentially repeating the plots of seasons one and two of The Boys and treading water.

I would watch it but just be prepared that season one is an anomaly for quality. And the rest of the show never really reaches its peak or gets close again.

Ahhh fuck, it's the Karl Urban curse all over again (Riddick, Almost Human, Star Trek, Dredd...), everything he is in turns to shit.

Dredd was excellent. - It was mainly a silent role for Urban, which is probably why. He's a poor actor and his attempt at a Cockney accent is so jarring that I couldn't tolerate the show anymore.

Trek 09 and the sequels had a lot bigger problems than Urban. I actually thought he did an ok impression of bones. Obviously nowhere near the original, but who could be?

Almost Human was really good. It's a show that would've done better nowadays on streaming but was legitimately too smart for audiences at the time. If there's one thing I can praise The Boys for though, it's giving Karl Urban a steady paycheck. Dude's great, even if the writing in the show had him using the phrase "my wife's son" unironically.

The 'execs' decided the best way to launch a new IP with an overarching story line was to show the episodes out of order. Of course this killed the show.
 
So i finished season 3. Did you guys know that racism is bad? RACISM IS BAD GUYS!!!
The best character in the season was soilder boy, the rest didn't do much or develop at all. Butcher is the same cunt he was in season 1, homelander is a whining little faggot, I guess the asian chick is ok.
They should have retired the series at the end of season 1.

I think I saw one episode of season 3. Season 1 really was lightning in a bottle, even with the slow start. Season 2 was lame.

Seems like The Boys was more suited for a miniseries. Even a more limited "season" format gives the writers too much time to tell stories that simply are not interesting, at the cost of moving the main premise forward.
