One of the writers confirmed in an interview that Maeve only survives because the writers did not want a fag character to die. So she has plot armor due to being a dyke and nothing else.
Good gravy. If you're killing off characters, it makes sense that some gays should die, too. I mean, wouldn't that be good drama? Wouldn't it show how the evil right-wingers who hate gays deserve to die, if you have a sympathetic gay character bite the bullet because of them? Wouldn't her dying to stop Soldier Boy from annihilating them all be a good send-off for Maeve? Or, if she's going to survive, why not have it so that she doesn't get hit by the beam, she's just grabbing SB from the back and they both fall from a tall height and get knocked unconscious by the fall?
I know this is capeshit spergery but everything about the last encounter seems like it wasn't planned ahead.
Everyone's powers depend entirely on what the plot requires at that given moment. Sometimes it's a big explosion, other times it's a giant Kamehameha beam that disintegrates anything it touches. And most importantly Soldier Boy will sometimes just stand perfectly still for 20 seconds while Starlight charges her big attack.
Homelander has been shown in season 1 to be fast enough to whisk Butcher away from the explosion at Stillwell's before it killed him but he fights Maeve with the agility of a barfly. Homelander and Soldier Boy are so overwhelmingly strong that they wrote themselves into a corner and couldn't figure out a way for them to lose without them completely throwing their fights.
Most of the action in the show could be entirely negated by the characters remembering their own powers.
Capeshit power levels and abilities are determined entirely by the plot. One thing you have to understand with superhero stories is that they can't be bothered to be realistic or consistent.
I mean, if all it takes to make a Supe like Homelander is some Compound V and some experimenting, then by now, Stan Edgar should have a dozen Homelander-esque goons that could snap the neck of the original. Superman's powers were unique to him because he is one of the few remining Kryptonians left, making his power hard to replicate. Homelander is just a filthy
ningen who got experimented upon by a big pharma/media corporation to gain powers. What's to say the CIA, or some other big pharma company, or the military, can't cook up their own versions of Soldier Boy or Homelander? I'm certain that stealing the original Compound V formula or experimental methods that created Homelander or Soldier Boy would be child's play for some government spies. Or that they may have someone working within Vought who can leak the data to the Feds.
Really, this whole story only keeps going because the good guys, as well as everyone outside of Vought, act like idiots.
