rescued one of the goslings today - he'd been abandoned by his family group and was soaking wet and freezing cold
he smelled like a mixture of oil and dish soap, so i think he'd gotten oil on himself somehow and then someone tried to clean the oil off with soap, not realising that makes it even worse because it strips the waterproofing., then when he went back in the water he got completely waterlogged, exhausted and couldn't keep up with the rest of the family as they travelled to graze so he just got left behind
it's one of the ones i've been feeding a lot so he was very easy to capture thankfully, and he settled down very quickly once i got him swaddled up in a towel :>

i don't know for sure, but there's been an obnoxious couple doing circles in the lake a lot recently on their boat scaring all the nesting birds and their babies, so i have a suspicion it's something from their boat that's leaked and they tried to cover it up instead of reporting it :<
I saw some crows in my yard for the first time ever and read online that they like unsalted peanuts so I've been saturating my yard with them. It does seem like they're coming back, but is there anything else I can do to attract them? They're also very skittish. One flew away when he saw me peek through the door window. I'd like to see them closer if possible.

I befriended a flock at my previous workplace over the course of 6 months.
First make sure they can see you while putting out the food. After a while they get to know your face and they'll gain some trust.
Ideally make it the same time each day so they'll learn the schedule.
Mix up foods so they keep being excited.
And sooner or later they'll see you as their buddy and they'll actively come seeking you out.
It reached the point that when I arrived at the parking space they'd wait for me, then walk with me to the workplace, if give them some snacks, then they'd lounge around a bit and during the breaks they came to visit to. Once they even came into the office because I left the windows open. I miss them since I don't work there anymore.
They enjoy peanuts in their shells, and if you really want to treat them, give them some unsalted cashews. My crew went wild for those.
