I know Carpet Sample's been posted, but I didn't want to say "Carpet Sample" and make you go look for it, so here's the abomination in all its glory (again). I don't think anyone's posted the true horror behind this suit.
Carpet Sample's creator created Carpet Sample out of stuffed animals that he fucked, jizzed in/on repeatedly without washing them, skinned them, and slowly pieced them together into this monstrosity without washing off the semen. This Bozo is a stuffed animal Buffalo Bill. He shambles around cons being the unwashed mongoloid that he is, with a fursuit composed of desecrated children's toys crusted head to toe in rotten semen and saturated with tard sweat and God knows what else. He's also been known to stalk people down alleys after cons. I have no doubt at least one didn't make it out alive.

the fursuit industry is a massive one that's like 90% shit and bootlegs from popular artists but yeah there are some good ones. autumn fallings is seen as the mother of modern fursuit design (with hundreds of people reverse engineering her heads and legs in particular) so she's worth noting even though her style's become kinda generic. fleecerot is another pretty decent one who carved out a niche by using fleece and a unique gross-out style. beetlecat makes semi-realistic suits of varying but usually-pretty-good quality. there are probably others but this is about bad suits and not good ones.
character costume design, as both an art and science, is extremely difficult. lots of people don't grasp how much planning and work it takes to create something that's even remotely decent. you're converting a 2D character into a 3D persona, constrained right off the bat to working with human proportions/points of articulation, need to keep comfort of the wearer in mind, and your design has to be emotive while also (typically) not having many moving parts. it takes a lot more thought than you'd expect to create a good product, and even some big names that lack the experience (or who want to try to break the mold) can't do it all too well. take nickelodeon for example.
most of those designs don't transfer to the 3D world well at all so for the sake of not going too far off topic let's stick with Sandy, who has more fursuit-like proportions. she has an extremely vacant/static expression and she was stylized in a way that makes poor use of her human base, thus failing on the suspense of disbelief point. that makes for an ugly, cheap, unsettling costume, even though it was produced by a company that has both a big budget and a big pool of artists.
on the flip side, virtually every successful costume maker owes Disney for figuring out how to make a character costume that's expressive and fun. Disney invented the construction of a face that could display a wide range of emotion through different angles (because the frozen smile at every angle is creepy as fuck) and lots of the toony fursuit designers (like Autumn Fallings, mentioned above) owe them for that. however, it also took Disney some 50+ years to finally figure that recipe out and leave the hellacious uncanny valley that is Disney costumes prior to circa 2002. people run by their rules whether they want to or not (and whether they realize it or not) because there are few good alternatives out there in the world of character costumes.
here's Minnie from 1950s, 1970s, 1980s, and the modern one, respectively. only the last costume uses that more emotive face construction.

I feel like a lot of the bad fursuits we see on here are made by new artists who wanna cash in on the 1k-5k fursuits they see floating around. Their first things aren't the best, so they sell that to recoup costs, make their shitty second attempt, wash rinse repeat.

I found this hilariously bad/creepy murrsuit and how terribly self righteous the owner is about it on top of its ugliness makes for a hoot.
I think honestly murrsuiters could deserve a thread of their own, especially the twitter ones who act like an oppressed minority because suprise, most people find this shit creepy.
The unbrushed, crusty fur. The derpy horse face. The feet that just look like socks with silicone pads put on. Christ.
