Looks like Caine has been running at least for at least 12 years between 1996 to 2008. Not sure why the modified date on all the files is the same calendar day but years apart. Also the file size for
paraphernalia-engine.dat,
[Scratch].dat, and
[Ragatha].dat being 0.234512 MB is interesting.
Code:
kinger@circus:~$ /usr/bin/gdb /usr/local/bin/clisp 1337
clisp, (Common Lisp), is a programming language used in AI/machine learning. Most notably in ACT-R (Adaptive Control of Thought - Rational) which is a cognitive architecture that basically simulates how humans think and solve problems by mimicking behaviors and cognitive processes.
From Wikipedia:
Brain Imaging and Modular Structure: 1998–2015
After the release of ACT-R 4.0,
John Anderson became more and more interested in the underlying neural plausibility of his life-time theory, and began to use brain imaging techniques pursuing his own goal of understanding the computational underpinnings of the human mind.
Code:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 234512 Oct 15 1996 parapernalia-engine.dat
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 234512 Oct 15 1999 [Scratch].dat
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 234512 Oct 15 2008 [Ragatha].dat
All of these .dat (Data) files are brain scans which means nobody is leaving the simulation and there's no escape. What I find odd is the files are only 0.234512 MB. I'm not exactly sure why they're so small, a 3.5in Floppy can hold 1.44 MB, but it makes sense as to why no one can remember anything. C&A probably scans everything but your memories to save on storage space.
Code:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 45632 Oct 15 1996 wacky-watch.c
This is probably the program that Caine uses to watch everyone. The "eyes" he refers to in the first episode.
Code:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 892344 Oct 15 1996 caine-core.lisp
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 78234 Oct 15 1996 bubble-chef.lisp
I guess Bubble was the other AI? So now that Caine is gone, Bubble is free? Prepare for a "Bubble was the real bad guy all along" for the last episode.
