I've never read anything by Ballard, do you recommend? They definitely have a bit of a dystopian air about them.
You can’t go wrong with his short story collections Vermilion Sands and Myths of the Near Future, though I recommend purchasing The Complete Stories of JG Ballard.

For novels, I highly recommend High Rise, The Drowned World, Super-Cannes, Concrete Island, and if you’re comfortable with edgier, highly explicit material, read Crash, The Atrocity Exhibition, and The Unlimited Dream Company (this one is personally my absolute favorite of his but I don’t recommend it as a starting point since it’s kind of esoteric and really really fucking weird and graphic).

I haven’t read his autobiographical works like Empire of the Sun or The Kindness of Women so I can’t speak on those.

Various wallpapers from late 90s to early 2000s websites. I always associated these types of wallpapers when with the image of an ethereal yet brighter future.

You beat me to it. Anything made in Bryce 3D looks awesome.

Speaking of 90’s, I like the aesthetic of Point-and-Click adventure games from that era. Anything made by Cyan, like Myst and Riven, are works of art. Look at how gorgeous these are!

Are we talking gore/rapey? If so, then I think I'll pass on those ones specifically. I remember watching this youtube video of one of the Alien comics which was very like that and it really horrified me. I hadn't felt that physically sick since I watched a video of someone going through the art collection of (I think it was John) Podesta and the Instagram account of Comet PingPong.

I've seen some recent album covers that seem to take inspiration from the style of that era:

I think this is worth mentioning in this thread, but somebody did an awesome job of exporting all the textures and backgrounds, including the .wmf format clipart from the
Click' N Design CD Label Design Software from 2000, they made it all available with in a Google Drive.

If you like pictures similar to the one in my previous post or just very old computer graphics, this might be a

MirrorMask is a film that, despite being written by Neil Gaiman, directed by renowned British artist Dave McKean, and produced by the Jim Henson Company, was panned by critics and has since fallen into obscurity, which is a damn shame because this movie is absolutely gorgeous.

I must have a fixation for gold, orange and blue goddamn

I was curious what was the origin of this picture that's frequently used as a meme, because
it was so beautiful to me

The artist who made this art piece is called Christian Riese Lassen, an American painter and surfer from California. He's a self-taught artist and all of his artworks are done in traditional way. Most of his works consists of dream-like landscapes and seascapes featuring animals like dolphins, whales, fish and horses.

Some people in this thread might recognize his art due his artwork being very popular and prominent in the 90s. I think he deserve a mention in this thread because his art style is very beautiful and unique and has a very specific aesthetic attached to it with the ability to invoke feelings of nostalgia .

Love the dolphin obsession of the 90s/2000s, ocean themed stuff in general. I was so jealous of a friends aquarium screensaver lol.

I swear his artwork (or perhaps artwork very similar in style) was ubiquitous on notebooks and school folders during the 90’s/00’s. School supplies used to be decked out with bling and colorful animals.

I asked for this screensaver for Christmas! It was worth it.
Vapor95 has been selling these aquarium lamps recently

Some people also turn old imacs into aquariums, which is very aesthetic.

Gonna go back a further few decades with hand-drawn, hand-designed psychedelic concert posters of the 1960’s. Love these colors and wavy dimensions, man. 🌈 ☮️ 🚬
