This is your delusion. Pregnancy is a regular matter of life and death. Even in intentional pregnancies, 20% of them are miscarriages. Many of these mothers need abortions to preserve their fertility or their lives.

It's not wrong to be prosperous and sheltered, but you take for granted why the cry of a neonate is a miracle. We cry when they do for all the infants that never do.

Our low infant mortality rates are extensively engineered, and a big portion of that is because of women terminating pregnancies that are not compatible with life. Conjoined twins with one heart, babies with tooth buds in their mid brain, embryos developing with two copies of an autosomal recessive gene.

Even if they are the minority of people receiving abortions, I don't think we should fuck them over like this. Just in a pointless bid to save the souls of sluts?

Either way, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. But if you truly value posterity, then you must practice triage. And I'm genuinely sorry that you have so few woman in your life that you know so little about husbandry.

It's in this order:

1. Massive transfusion protocols/safe blood supply.
2. Clean ORs and fast emergent c-sections with fine-tuned anesthesia.
3. Artificial surfactant and antibiotics. Until surfactant was developed we regularly lost 32 weekers, even, like JFK's dead son. Now if a gal goes into labor at 32 weeks no effort will be made to stop or stall it, because that kid has a 98%+ odds of surviving with zero long-term damage.
4. Supplemental oxygen
5. Various specialized innovations in the NICU like cooling for neuro preservation, bili lights, immune globulins.

And then maybe 0.0001% due to people just preemptively killing ones who wouldn't make it, but no sane accounting of neonatal survival counts any dead bodies as a win, because why would it?

You are still low balling the amount of preemptive terminations, and also ignoring the point- LOSS IS INEVITIBLE, BUT REDUCING THE AMOUNT OF CORPSES IS A WIN

and you are still in denial of the amount of fatal pregnancies. Have you never done missionary work? Worked inpatient care in a hospital or palliative center? Lost friends or coworkers from complications of pregnancy? Are you twelve?

You are not reducing the number of corpses by killing the deceased a couple weeks before they would have died.

If that was the case, Cuomo would be a great hero of the people for culling boomers. "He reduced mortality in 2021 by pumping it up in 2020!"

I'm very aware of the costliness of human reproduction. I have professional and personal stakes in keeping the details to myself, and no particular need or desire to peacock about it. You do what you need for yourself, of course.

I didn't mean to imply I do all of those things, just that those are situations where one would be exposed to that trauma that I could think of

But again, I don't see the point in criminalizing abortion just because a lot of criminals peruse it. It will alienate women from prenatal care and lead to deaths that would otherwise be preventable.

The criminalization of abortion is also the criminalization of miscarriage. Because of people like that weed guy who think that natural miscarriage is a statistical outlier.

In his defence this is also my sole reservation on the abortion question. How can I approve of them when they deprive me of drama, rape and fresh meat?

None of that is comparable to the situation you posed where some kind of choice is to be made between two lives. Tiresome and dishonest. And if you think pregnancy is a "matter of life and death" because many of them end in miscarriages, that is an implicit admission that a miscarriage is a death, is it not? Hence to intentionally induce a miscarriage (i.e. abortion) would be murder.

Yeah, I agree that abortion can be the termination of life, but I disagree that that's inherently murder.

If that were the case (killing=murder), then many men I know would be murderers. But we look at the circumstances and realize that it would be batshit unfair, and any legislative follow through on that would lead to more poverty and ergo, suffering and death. Instead they just get a slap on the wrist and told to look where they're going, and not to do it again!

I think that creating a system that judges all miscarriages as potential crimes is a waste of resources. And also culpably weird. If someone knocked me up knowing that I most likely can't have live babies, would he be a murderer as well? (I say no.)

But if I went to the ER for it, it wouldn't be clear that that's the case. They wouldn't know my medical history and it would have to be seen as a potential crime and be investigated as such. And because of how common miscarriage is, that is going to be a lot of time wasted.

How is termination of a human life not murder when it is done purely for the sake of convenience? I.e., the 90+% of cases where the woman just gets an abortion because she doesn't want a kid, not because she was raped or the pregnancy is somehow going to kill her or any other fringe scenario like that. Address the central issue.

I have yet to see a single pro-lifer who has even remotely suggested that natural miscarriages should be somehow criminalized. How many times does this have to be said?
