Yeah. I don't really care if a sentai is "edgy" or whatever. All I care about is whether I like it or not and have fun watching it. Same with Kamen Rider and Power Rangers.

Take for instance Masked Rider. While not my favorite Rider by a loooooong shot, I do enjoy watching it. It's fun to pick apart and comment on. I cannot, however, say the same thing about one of the edgiest riders of all: Kamen Rider Faiz.

Yes, to me Masked Rider > Kamen Rider Faiz.

On the last episode of Masked Rider, BTW. Yeah, my schedule slipped. One of the guys on Rangerboard is started up a toku review site and I've been invited to post there. I'm going to be starting with weekly reviews of Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills and Battle Fever J, The former because...just look at that goddamn name. I'm in for a treat. The latter for a variety of reasons.
1) Aired in Hawaii.
2) First sentai to use a giant robot
3) Influenced by Marvel
4) Those costumes give me the creeps.

I probably would have a lot of love and respect for Modern Sentai except for one thing - Zords should NOT be CGI. At All. It's okay if the Weapons are CGI, but not the bodies of the Zords. I felt ABANDONED when Wild Force showed me those ugly things. Linkara described the new CGI Zords as "For better or worse." and I can say that yes, for WORSE. However, the theme of Gaoranger did ask for it though, since there were intended to be so many Zords.

Still, there's just a certain charm in seeing something on your Tv and knowing its an actual, concrete prop, and not something built on a computer.

I'm not going to say they should never use CGI, but it should only be used when necessary. I'm a big fan of practical effects myself and feel that they can still hold up when done correctly.

I hope you're not referring to Gingaman in that sentence, those rubber animal costumes looked horrible.
When done correctly. Those costumes are on par with the Zyuranger puppets.

I kinda want to watch Fiveman. Heard it's a low point in sentai history and want to see it for myself.

Not the mecha. Definitely not the mecha.
Do you mean those plush versions of the Guardian Beasts that appeared around the last fifth of the season?

I know the point of the Zyuranger series was aiming for a lighter feel than Jetman, but I can't wrap my mind around the Tyrannosaurus looking like a mix of a "chibi" drawing and Barney the Dinosaur...

Kamen Rider Drive's OP
Does anyone else feel like it looks more like an anime opening? Anyway, love it and can't wait for the subs.

Kamen Rider Gaim is an awesome series. I need to get back to watching it sometime (I left off after episode 20). I've followed the episode descriptions though.

The next sentai has been announced, Shuriken Sentai Ninninger. Will we finally see a pink ninja?

Just watched the first episode of Kamen Rider OOO (Tagalog-dubbed) today, the first of the Kamen Rider series to be aired in the Philippines since Kamen Rider Hibiki (on free TV) or Kamen Rider Kabuto (shown on Cartoon Network, dubbed in English). Here are my thoughts:
  • The episode title shown onscreen retains the Japanese script. A local translation isn't shown (unlike in recent airings of Hunter x Hunter, where the translation of the episode title is shown with the Japanese script).
  • Eiji says his name to Ankh using the Japanese order (Hino Eiji instead of Eiji Hino).
  • Eiji says "henshin" instead of "Rider Change" or "transform".
  • The TV network airing OOO provided its own break bumpers. Too bad the original opening bumper was left out.

Pre-orders for Shout! Factory's Zyuranger release are now being taken. The set will be on sale Feb 2015 for $60, though that price is subject to change. I may not pick this up myself, as I'm not too keen on Zyuranger but am still hoping for a Shinkenger release :)

Kamen Rider Kabuto (shown on Cartoon Network, dubbed in English)
I dug the Kabuto dub. Like, sitting through the parts where people talk too damn much is less tedious if I can just listen and dick around online.

The lip syncs are what bother me the most about that. I can't just ignore them like I can with anime because of how off they can be.

I like the kung fu vibe of it all. After I saw a German poster for a V3 movie titled "Frankenstein's Kung-Fu Monster" it it got me framing Kamen Rider more as kung fu.

Its a little old but...

Zyuranger-Shout-Factory-DVD-Cover.jpg

This DVD cover well exceeded my expectations, and I didn't know what to expect. I was picturing some sort of heavy Green theme (since Green Ranger was the most popular) but I love this color of blue. It does a good job of advertising what it is supposed to be too, they seem to be putting thought into this. They even seem to be implying that there will be more sets, with the big bold "Super Sentai" Title right there.

I am really looking forward to this, seeing it all in remastered form. Unlike Power Rangers, it is totally possible for it to look freaking beautiful.

Drive's got himself a blue form. I honestly can't wait for Type Dead Heat or Type Formula. Formula looks like it's going to be badass.
