All of them through Dairanger to GoGoV.

If they release Jetman as well, in the extremely unlikely event, that would really bring this up by quantum leaps.

Anyway, here's another one of my favorite moments in Power Rangers.

Through the years, I always noticed that any villain who wasn't a monster of the day seemed to be exempt from death. Any time a Megazord was about to use its Finisher on a General, he'd either flee or would survive the Finisher move. Needless to say, seeing this as a child for the first time was absolutely surprising. Not only was this a permanent villain being destroyed, it was the Leader of the Villains that Season!

I'm actually thinking about watching Kamen Rider Dragon Knight since it's not only the first (and only) KR adaptation since Masked Rider, but the idea of adapting any KR series (primarily Heisei era) has always interested me since getting into the series.

Is there anything I should know about this show other than it being an adaptation of Ryuki?

Somehow, I doubt I'm going to be shipping Takeru/Genta like I do Antonio/Jayden.

Genta calls Takeru "Take-chan."

Although it's kind of a love triangle between Red, Blue, and Gold.

If you want a sentai series that has those kinds of vibes though, try GaoRed and GaoYellow in Gaoranger. GaoBlue and GaoBlack border on it too.

What bugs me is that in Wild Force they didn't take advantage of Red and Yellow's..um... tension. I mean, Yellow's a girl in Wild Force, they could have totally used that. But I think Tzachor has an aversion to having red and yellow get together.

Do not get me started on red and pink shipping, by the way. I hate it.

Yeah. Tzachor wants his "perfect man" hooking up with his "perfect girl." There's shades of it in Megaforce too.

(Which is sad because, while Troy has all the charisma of a mannequin, there's more chemistry between him and Gia than Gia and Jake)

Finished my second sentai today, Kyoryuger. Well, except for Vs. Gobusters and Returns. Ending was rushed, yes, but one of the most epic sendoffs ever. And while the series does try and paint Daigo as the greatest hero ever, they make one hell of a case for it. Hell, I'm willing to throw away my dislike for the over-muscled action figures Bandai of America makes to get one...if the Kyoryu Red figurarts wasn't so damn cheap.

Himeshinkenred can kick Kyoryu Red's ass anytime, any day.

Not there yet...and looking at Overtime's release schedule, not for a long time. I'm stuck at the introduction of the Dai Tenkuu, which Power Ranger's equivalent almost made me ragequit Samurai. I've looked at the offending scene in Shinkenger and found it parsec's better than Saban's version, but I'm still having trouble committing to the episode.

The episode in question, Forest for the Trees...it's like the writer's knew how sexist it came off as and tried to hide it under a single exclamation of "girl power." Personally, I like to think the actresses ad-libbed it duting ADR and Tzachor just let it through.

I think Chiaki felt upset because he progressed so much and wasn't getting noticed.

It wasn't so much Mike being a prat I hated, it was how self-depreciating Mia was. They gave her the beetle disk because she was the one who could best use it. When Mike get's all prissy about it, what does she say?

Jayden and Jii had to make a decision, it doesn't mean it was the right one.

Okay, let's back the fuck up here and look at the context of this. You have a weapon, Mia is the one you believe could best use the damn thing. That's the fucking logical thing to do. Your job is to fight the Nighlok and protect the people, not to make Mike feel better because he was the only guy not to get a new disk. Sorry, but if Jayden and Jii chose you because they believed in you more. They cited they trusted your control of your symbol power the most. Not Mike. Don't go depreciating yourself as "the wrong choice."

Mako said that while Chiaki probably could use the Kabuto disc, he lacks the inspiration. He didn't fully understand his scriptomacy and how it works at the time. Once he did, Mako gave it to him because he could put it to better use.

And this is where the watering down of Shinkenger doesn't work. Chiaki had a rebellious streak, Mike did not. In Samurai, it felt faaaaar more like a child having a tantrum until he's given the toy he wants. Jii never mentions that Mike never learned the basic concepts like his sentai counterpart did to Chiaki, so the apology sounds more like "I'm sorry I didn't pick you."

...

Sorry. This episode, again, almost made me ragequit Samurai.

Also, Kotoha isn't a childish, naive, innocent, idiot like in Samurai (at least what I've seen).

I like to think Emily is a stoner and hooked up with Mike only to use his symbol power to grow her pot quicker and more potent.

So her sister isn't sick, she's probably been busted by the feds. And when she says "Just like chopping the weeds back home," she was referring to a different kind of weed.

Not so much sick. More or less faking it rather than anger Emily, who had this planned out well in advance of the Nighlok showing up.

Don't let her bubbly nature, clumsiness or childlike innocence fool you.

Ultraman Tiga has a really fucking catchy theme:

I've lately been floundering around with Toku watching. First I started a watch through of Power Rangers in Space but then switched over to the Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers Saga. Now that thats done, I've just been watching a bunch of random episodes of PR as well as VR Troopers. I really love VR Troopers Season 2 due to the stark differences in tone and setting between Shaider and Metalder, and it seems they left all the plots of Spielban episodes for this season, smart thinking!

I really should branch out into 80s Super Sentai, considering my love for the decade, I surprisingly haven't. I really dig the "80s Feel" that Shaider, Spielban and Metalder bring, and even Kamen Rider Black RX seems to be loaded with flashy light shows, my kind of appeal. Heck even as a kid, I thought the Super Gold and Super Blue transformations were freaking awesome.

Well, caught up with Overtimes Shinkenger Subs. Waiting sucks.

BTW, Saban's Masked Rider > Kamen Rider Faiz.

So now that we're halfway through, what's everyone's thoughts on Toqger? Personally, while it started off kinda weak it's grown into being a highlight of my week. It has that one quality that I always love in toku, it's fun. While not something you'd think about like Gaim, it's something that brings a smile to my face.

All in all I think the whole motif of the season is really dumb. Trains? Choo-choo trains? TRAINS?? Why can't they do something edgy again, like base a Sentai off of something akin to Star Wars? The Megazord is comprised of 5 star ships?

But of course, I'm only bitching about shows I don't watch and I'm sure Toqger is just as good and gripping to the Japanese children as any Sentai of the past looks. Facts are facts though, Haim Saban doesn't like it, and may pass it up after Dino Charge (so THATS why he skipped Gobusters?).

In my own news, my Netflix region finally has Super Megaforce! I didn't see Megaforce at all, but Super Megaforce is definitely worth it more to me. I even went ahead and watched the premiere when it came on and I loved it. Look forward to seeing it on my own time.

I watched the first couple episodes of Gobusters...but then it lost my interest quickly...coming off of the Gokaiger finale probably didn't help. What really got me was the weaknesses. Blue's weakness is overheating, Yellow's is high metabolism I guess, and Red's is...staring at a picture of a chicken? Really? Never mind that the three just seemed so bland to me...

I actually like Toqger. It's supposed to be silly. And trains are a big thing in Japan, it's one of the most common modes of transportation there. It's about time they made a series about trains. Not every sentai season has to be edgy, and this is coming from me, the chick who loves RPM and Liveman. But it's definately not as fluffy as Go-onger or Goseiger, but that's my opinion. It kind of reminds me of Carranger, but not as heavy on the parodying, but it still has a lot of breaking the fourth wall.

And it's the first series I've seen where Red acknowledges that he'd prefer that everyone would lead the team along with him, since they are all good at certain things.

Plus the villains look/are really cool.
