This is a chicken or the egg situation. Since at least Kyoryuger, Sentai has been criticized for focusing so much on Red. To the point that he was given sole power ups, much like Power Rangers and its Battleizers. Which run contrary to, at the point as recent as Gobusters, giving all the rangers team power ups. Reds were giving priority and focus in the TV series, toys, and crossovers whenever they happened. Boonboonger broke the cycle by having guest Sentai stars that aren't solely Red. Gokai Blue was only given a prominent role cause he's one of the biggest actors to come from Sentai.

Toei has been focusing on Reds since they see they're the most popular but it's like that's your own fault. When you make the Reds get the sole spotlight, especially during crossovers, is it really surprising that they're most popular? So it's like they're following trends that they're clearly responsible for causing.
are there really that many non-Reds who stand out? other than extras and the deka gang

Records of Extraordinary Dimensions seems like a good enough goofy jp acronym

If the theory this is partly to escape the clutches of the old Saban contract, they probably don't want anything approaching "Power" or "Rangers."
Perhaps you are correct, though considering the fact that "ranger" is a common word (it is a real profession and a DnD class), the effort might be wasted. Honestly, if it was up to me, I would have Japan just buy Power Rangers outright. Hasbro is embarrassed by Tokusatsu. They do not get that the theatrics are, well, theatrics based on Kabuki Theater. We need people that can wear the spandex unironically. Such a shame that they wasted the Kyuranger mechs on the Cosmic Fury trash. I had my own ideas about that season and it would have been a celebration of everything that had come before. Example, Kyurangers Red and Black are lion and bull themed and I would have them be from Terra Venture. Blue would have been from Kruger's species etc etc. Homages, references, LOVE for the franchise, everything would have been great! But alas, Hasbro felt like half-assing it and basically apologized for being Toku. Sucks to suck but considering every controversy they have now, let's call it karma.

Agreed, and if they could they would. At this point Hasbro is just bitterly holding onto the license out of spite. Supposedly, there is a series being developed for Disney+ which I haven't even bothered posting about because until they actually start filming, it effectively doesn't exist. There was a whole other non sentai footage PR series being developed which went nowhere. I will be genuinely surprised if they ever get this new one off the ground.

Off the top of my head, I'd have to say Kiranger, Denzi Blue, Black Condor, Ninja White, Hurricane Blue, Magi Green, Shinken Blue, Gosei Blue, Gokai Green, Yellow Buster, Kyoryu Blue, ToQ2gou, Tenbin Gold, Kiramai Yellow, Kamakiri Ohger, Boon Blue, and Gozyu Tyranno. They all had pretty memorable personalities.

I wouldn't be shocked if a really motivated lawyer could kill a tm on "rangers" at least
cheap toy commercial MiniForce out of worst korea calls their color-coded hero team Rangers in years worth of usa dub content that went unchallenged

We did not know how good we had it under Disney. They might have felt embarrassed by PR but they still had competent writers that were unwilling to talk down on kids. Neo-Saban only had PART of Dino Charge going for it and Beast Morphers felt the need to change animal themes because of some wizard spell that erased the term "Heracles Beetle" and "Stag Beetle" from every kids' mind. I have no faith in current Disney nor Hasbro. Get previous cast members to write the series otherwise it will suck. What are the chances that we will have a proper Kyuranger adaptation to replace Cosmic Fury? Zero? Then why bother? Does Hasbro have money to throw into the trash after everything that has happened? Does Disney? I expect girlboss galore. PR had proper strong women in the past. We did not need this!

one of my big regrets in life is not getting my picture with SPD Red (and then just lying and telling people it's Dekared) when they were at MGM and the wife and me had weekday passes

A perfectly valid regret. Jack was a great character. I can understand if it was a less well made season but Time Force, SPD and RPM all had great cast and stories.

yeah it's not even like I really _disliked_ SPD Red, I only caught a couple of eps but it seemed like a cromulent kiddie scifi thing
I did get the Dekarobozord pin, though, baller af design and a well-made pin

It really was not "kiddie stuff". It touched dark subjects in a mature manner without talking down to kids. It was kind of like Batman: TAS or Time Force. Little gore but handled subjects like a parent's death and poverty in a very adult manner. Sadly, you do not see that any more.

To further on the SPD glaze, Dekaranger is my favorite Sentai and SPD is my favorite out of the Disney era.

So to have SPD, effectively adapt episodes while doing it's own thing, and matching the quality of Dekaranger is a wild, fuzzy feeling.
I think a big part is the cop drama aspect gives them a giant bucket of stock melodrama story beats they normally wouldn't be able to hit as your average Spandex Taskforce Rainbowger

I think the best example is how they adapted the mirror episode to further the arc of a character whose counterpart didn't even have a history with the monster.

Sad that the company that was most ashamed of PR was also more willing to put effort into it than current Saban and Hasbro. Both those companies decided to make series for idiots. No subtlety, no nuance, no love, no direction, no story cohesion, no themes, just visuals for the iPhone generation to distract them from the fact that this is not as good as what ca before. I feel a lot of pity for the actors as they are in most cases very talented and big fans of PR. It is like a bunch of Henry Cavills. I truly wonder how did Saban drop the ball so hard though. They could make decent or even good stories back in the day. It is like they were lobotomized as a company.

While the cop drama was a good framework, PR never had a problem figuring out how to create a good story where there was none. From the Saban era, we had Turbo Rangers' defeat, Zordon's death, Scorpion's everything, Titanium Ranger as a whole, Eric's issues stemming from him growing up poor amongst the rich, Cole's quest to find his parents and his eventual heartbreak and many, many more.

I think the best example is how they adapted the mirror episode to further the arc of a character whose counterpart didn't even have a history with the monster.
Inspiration. That was some good stuff.

Project R.E.D teaser aired:

New Gozyuger intro with Kohaku Shida:

How did they explain her change in appearance? Sumino was deep undercover and had the Tegasword help change her face but now it seems she can't reverse back. Doesn't let it get her down as this new face is super cute ( oni kawaii).

Sad that the company that was most ashamed of PR was also more willing to put effort into it than current Saban and Hasbro
That was probably it's biggest strength. The PR production department was basically left to their own devices so long as they stayed within budget and the toys kept selling.
