I like when they're more straightforward thing where Commander Admiral is all "okay team, the Badguy Empire has deployed an alligator-gorilla-linebacker monster to turn all of Japan's pudding into natto, go shoot him until he becomes huge."
Don't forget the ending narration saying something like, "The hero saved Japan's pudding from being turned into natto. However, the hero is fighting a seemingly endless battle against the Badguy Empire with no hope of finding happiness or inner peace. His dreams are plagued by nightmares and he lives a life of isolation. Fight on, Hero Man!"

Elsewhere I've seen more localization defenders bringing up a certain company when they try to defend anime/manga/game translators who insert shitty memes and such into English translations. "Uh, without Saban and their localizations, we wouldn't even have tokusatsu fans in the US!" and the localizations in question were

I don't care what people say, I liked Masked Rider when it was on the air. I was genuinely confused why he didn't have a giant robot or teammates. And why his forms looked so different from each other.

That ignores the fact that Godzilla and Ultraman (the former especially) had already penetrated American culture long before Saban came along despite being only dubbed (aside from Raymond Burr's parts added into the first Godzilla movie). Saban wasn't even the first to have the idea to import Sentai, that honor goes to Stan Lee way back in the 70s when Marvel first did the deal with Toei that produced Toei Spider-Man and Battle Fever J-Sun Vulcan. Nor was he the first to actually accomplish importing it, that was done by USA Network's Night Flight.

The fact of the matter is someone was eventually going to do what Saban did and they aren't some precious commodity that we have to thank our lucky stars for. In a better world, Sentai and Kamen Rider are where Ultraman is at in the US. You can find just about every Ultraman series on DVD/Blu-ray and modern series are posted online by Tsubaraya themselves subtitled and even dubbed.

iirc Night Flight was through Saban
but yeah Ultraman, Ultra Seven, Johnny Sokko was a mostly accurate dub of Giant Robo, Space Giants was pretty ehh, like they'd take a four episode story arc and knock it down to two or three
the whole "oh no, there's no possible way burgers could understand what these bizarre slant-eyed creatures are" I'm guessing that was a thing Saban encountered trying to sell sentai since Bioman, iirc he was initially just trying to sell a dub of Bioman like he saw over af in France?

Well I just finished Kamen Rider: Kuuga & I really enjoyed it. I'm thinking of watching Agito next but haven't decided if I rather a newish series instead.

In the mean time, I'm going to finish King Ohger of which I'm currently on epi 30.

NHK Radio ran their own poll in relation to Sentai theme songs. Revealed via various tweets. https://x.com/nhk_anison/status/1933767618491789503

The results are:
1. Zenryoku King
2. LUCKYSTAR
3. Lupinranger vs Patranger
4. Kokoro wa Tamago
5. Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger
6. Samurai Sentai Shinkenger
7. VAMOLA! Kyoryuger
8. Don't Boo! Donbrothers
9. Orekoso Only One
10. Machine Sentai Kiramager
11. Engine Sentai Go-Onger
12. Kyukyu Sentai GoGoFive
13. Ressha Sentai Toqger
14. Winner! Gozyuger
15. Taiyo Sentai SunVulcan
16. Kotsu Kotsu-PON-PON
17. Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger
18. JIKU~ Mirai Sentai Timeranger
19. Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger
20. Inferno
21. Super Sentai Hero Getter
22. Ahh, Denshi Sentai Denziman
23. JAKQ Dengekitai
24. Susume! Gorenger
25. Seizyu Sentai Gingaman
26. Secret Kakuranger
27. Busters Ready Go!
28. Kizuna~ Go-Busters!
29. Dengeki Sentai Changeman
30. Gogo Sentai Boukenger

Changeman's intense opening song making it to the list warms my heart. If there's one Super Sentai show that deserves a re-watch right now, it's that one. Star King Bazu remains one of my favorite main villains in an 80's Super Sentai show.
I'm personally surprised that JAKQ's theme made the list. Well, that, and Jetman's ending theme making the top 5 while the opening isn't in the top 30.

There were a lot to choose from but at least Jetman's ending song did made it. JAKQ's opening theme was "meh" but you can tap your fingers on its ending theme instead.
Well I just finished Kamen Rider: Kuuga & I really enjoyed it. I'm thinking of watching Agito next but haven't decided if I rather a newish series instead.

Do watch Agito and you can ignore its connections with Kuuga at the same time,
the latter and the Unknown's (the monsters in Agito) connection to the Grongi was mentioned in Agito's second episode and that's just it.

It's not wrong, I feel. They weren't great adaptations, but it sure planted the most seeds.

I did learn about Sentai, Kamen Rider, and Metal Heroes through them. I really wanted to see the Keita Amemiya Kamen Rider movies, thanks to those shows. It helps bring in Gridman to the states with the PR boom.
I was a massive fan of Godzilla, and I became a massive fan of Ultraman while looking for something Power Ranger-related.
As shit as the I AM AMAZON scene was, I saw the original Showa riders on US TV, which is fucking wild in hindsight.

That being said, Saban shows are a very different beast for localizations, and I think it speaks volumes that a bunch of hacked-together shows brought more eyes to an art form, at least in the US, than what a localizer deems witty meme knowledge.

Cool story about being unpopular on reddit.
We get it: you jerk off to Donbrothers and Sononi Sonoi and Taro shipping with Reddit. Don Brother still sucks despite the theme and mecha.

If you haven't checked them out, watch the live action Garo. It's got a darker theme for a "Sentai series." He also made a Kikaider movie where Hakkaider is the antihero, but ymmv with that one (It does Kikaider dirty at the very end, and it pissed off the Japanese audience back in the 90s).

Imagine getting all incensed just because someone mentioned that your favorite website and its circle-jerking inhabitants suck ass in general then gives you MATI awards just because you told them the truth. :story:

EDIT: Stay mad as always about people criticizing your kid's shows, @Stab You in the Back

Oh, I have.
I'm a big fan of Keita Amemiya's stuff. ZO is still my favorite of his. Garo's awesome, and I push people to watch Garo when I can.
Hakkaider is such a weird, but neat beast for a Kikaider project. the final battle and making the white room "bleed" do be kino, though.

Smp Magiking has hit the streets of Japan. I paid around 76 dollars (48 base and around 28 on shipping) from hobby search.
So far, the Tariff is barely noticeable because I paid around 70ish for both SMP Dairenoh & Gingaioh.

I just finished Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger and the ending was phenomenal!!! Easily my favorite Sentai yet, I give it a 9.7 out of 10.

The cgi wasn't as bad as others have stated.

My standout character(s) has to be Sir Rcules Husty & Suzume Dybowski.

The plot twist was chef's kiss. If anybody deserves a happy ending its those 2.
------------------------------------------------------------Tomorrow I begin Mashin Sentai Kiramager + Kamen Rider Agito.

Ever since the introduction of Gozyu Polar, the show has been picking up.

King-Ohger's become my favorite show as well. If you liked Kuuga then you may definitely like Agito.

Bun Violet will be getting a spin off mini series on Toei's TTFC streaming service detailing his adventures before meeting the other 5. Lots of Sixth rangers will make appearances throughout.

Getting sixth to Zenakiger to kingohger is pretty neat. I guess it was easy to get Doragoku & Kunomos as they had a vs movie around the filming of boonboonger for the vs movie. I'm curious if they intend on making twokai silver Canon for Flint.
