In celebration of its 40th anniversary, Masakazu Katsura's toku inspired manga, Wingman, is getting a live action tokusatsu series produced by Toei. It stars Maito Fujioka (son of Hiroshi Fujioka AKA Takeshi Hongo AKA Segata Sanshiro) and directed by Koichi Sakamoto (Power Rangers, Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, Ultraman).

Although the official premiere is on the 22nd, they streamed the first episode on a streaming service and there are already English fansubs.

Pretty disgusting they made a coomer show like this when we could have gotten another Metal Hero installment, if they really wanted to reboot something. Better yet, reboot Message from Space or, best of all, suck it up and work with Takara to make a new Tomica Hero show! That would be a wish come true for many people.

On the bright side, Bug Rider fans may want to check out Gavv -- from what I've heard, it really leans into classic Rider despite the silly food motif. Also, BoonBoomger is not disappointing; it will probably end up one of my favourite Sentai shows of all time. I'd really like to build the BoonBoom truck's vehicle mode as well as the BoonBoomgers' base out of Lego; the base in particular is screaming to become a set.

It's not really a coomer show. The original was a romantic comedy with superhero hijinks. It leaned more cutesy than smutty.

I watched the remake's premier. They did a good job updating it. No real fights in the first episode, but it made me chuckle a few times. The protagonist sperging when the first monster appeared was fun.

yeah I've only caught an ep or two raw some years back, but I recall it's more that yeah the chick is very something but that's supposed to be part of the joke, that it's some putz who likes hero crap and then hero crap happens at him

Exactly. He's into girls, sure. But super hero shit comes first. It helps that Katsura's style hadn't evolved into what it is today. It's very cute and lower on details than his stuff on I"s, Video Girl Ai or Zetman. Which gives it a fun sorta 80s romcom anime vibe. I've seen a handful of episodes and its fun.
 
BoonBoomger has gone full Brave this week. I swear, you think it can't possibly get any better, and it just pulls something even cooler out. Is this how people felt watching TTGL as it came out?

I like many of the lighthearted, kiddier shows since they tend to involve vehicle robots, and those are the only Sentai robots I care about.
 
I forgot the new Faiz movie was out. It's the most Inoue movie yet and it feels just like a very long Kamen Rider Faiz episode. It was retarded but I liked it and I think it'll stick with me for a while.

Ask Japan would they accept a black/latino, hell even a south east asian kamen rider or sentai member. And you'll see how they REALLY feel about people that aren't Japanese. They merely had a japanese-canadian yellow ranger last year or a Canadian with ramirez for kyoryuger. People try to make tokutastu more woke than it should be but they wouldn't entertain actually believing in that stuff. Most of the lgbt characters were meant to mock them as perverts or mentally ill. They really only do the lgbt stuff on the fanclub service to hide it from the general populace.

Yeah Simon Bennett was on some virtue signaling bullshit. I didn't mind ryusoulger being adapted due to being more appealing merch/design wise to Zyuohger & lupat.

Yeah. I saw the numerous videos of him beefing with Karen and the other black Yellow ranger. It's exceptionally stupid. The man just wants to create drama and drama farm, then wonder why he's banned. IT'S BECAUSE YOU'RE AN OBNOXIOUS ASSHOLE.

did japanese fans dislike the yellow ranger in kingohger? I get it, iirc she made a post somewhere (either twitter or an interview) saying japan should be more diverse, the usual shit. at least she's hot.
