Forcing myself to watch Revice, as of episode 11 still can't be bothered to care for any of these characters except Hiromi. It's more watcheable than Saber but holy shit it's boring. KinoBrothers is the superior toku this season.

I can't really do both of them this season. Don Brothers is just too fucking weird for me, and Revice is practically a slog to get through (I checked out about the time it was revealed that the dad was a Rider, I just simply fucking couldn't anymore).

I can't really explain why I can't get into Don Brothers for some reason. There's just something about it that doesn't click with me, and it's weird, because I kinda enjoyed COVID-Ranger. It might have something to do with re-using the same kind of transformation gimmick, and the fucking weirdness of the characters.

I have noticed fans starting to realize that maybe Saber wasn't the worst Rider series due to how bad Revice has been.
Hanta Kinoshita ruined Revice with his waifu yuri faggotry.

>Revice turns into Rebad
>so bad it redeems Saber in the process somehow

Not even in my wildest dreams did I expect this.

I enjoy Donbros because I like Inoue's writing. People seem fairly split with his work, seems like a love it or hate it kind of deal.

I loved Inoue as a writer. Agito and Kiva were great, and Faiz was a giant but extremely fun mess to watch.

There's been some better looks at the Kamen Rider and Shadow Moon from the upcoming KR Black reboot. I have to say I like the incorporation of the grasshopper "legs" as collars.

Does anyone have any recommendations for shorter and or self contained tokusatsu series?
The only exposer I've had with it so far are a few anime or manga that homage/parody it and 2 or 3 power rangers shows that aired/where popular in the mid to late 00s.
I kinda want to get a better feel for what most shows are like before trying to dive head first in to the more well known legacy series, which I've been told you can technically start with any new entry, but I have the gut feeling that you get a bit more out of if you know about/watched some of the older entries.

Tekkoki Mikazuki is really good. It's got some great visuals and some pretty wild monster designs. It's only like 6 episodes. At one hour a piece. Ultraman Nexus is at least a bit shorter than the typical Ultraman series too. Since it got canceled. It's very self-contained and really doesn't tie-in to anything except its movie prequel.

Kamen Rider ZO is a standalone movie that just does the basic "dude becomes bug dude, punches monsters" and gets done in under an hour

Of course, this thread drew no attention to that Sentai Fiveman got announced a few days ago.

What’s with the lack of retro Toku discussion? It’s not like there’s nothing to talk about.

I was unaware that Shout was going to start releasing Sentai again. I knew that selling PR to Hasbro threw a wrench in whatever deal they had going at the time. But, it's great they finally worked something out. I still wish they were a bit speedier with their releases, but this is definitely good news.

yeah I thought Sentai R1 was on the shelf for the foreseeable future
also who the fuck cares about legit releases lol
Toku is so episodic by nature that I don't know why length would be an issue.

Its not toku, but I've been watching Sukeban Deku II recently and it is delightful.
I tried Sukeban Deka 2 and I wanted to like it but when the audio swapped to clearly new recordings with production music hiding old commercial music they didn't re-license I noped the fuck out on it.

Eh, normies do. I mean, if it's a show I really like (And it's reasonably priced) I'll go in for a legal release. Even just putting it on a streaming service is good enough for most of them though. A buddy of mine got big into Sentai just because it was on Tubi for instance.

true, getting shit on a free legit streaming thing does miracles for the hyuumons

First episode of Ultraman Decker and it was pretty basic.

Decker’s design is way too much going on.

I liked getting to see a big, wild saucer invasion. We usually just get one ayy or monster fucking shit up. So, it was nice to see all the Spheres zipping around. It's a solid start to the series. Next week's should be more exciting, and I'm curious as to how Ryumon and Kanata will play off each other.

Kanata already seems like a less insufferable lead than Kengo did. I was tired of "Smile, smile!" after about two seconds.

iirc it's mildly less annoying in moon because it's some pun about sumaiaru / smile or some shit, but yeah it wasn't so hot a catchphrase

I’m mostly interested in seeing the Spheres after they were in Dyna. I hope we get more since we hardly know them during Dyna.

Since next year is Gaia’s 25th anniversary, I hope they do a sequel by having Gaia and Agul be the mentors to the 2023 Ultra and maybe do something like Taiga did by having the three take turns in fighting the monster of the week.
