I don't know about failed. But I heard it's really hot and dryer than the bottom of a dried up well. Also, there's no jobs and not a lot of money. All the banks are too poor to rob as well.

You have to define the parameters of "failed". The land that Texas occupies has a long and deep history and its existences as a separate country isn't really a thing. If your referring to the Republic of Texas (1836-1846) than I suppose you could technically call it failed country but that would be grossly misinterpreting historical context that applies too many modern ideas and sensibilities.

Not when the entire state thinks little girls should gestate rape embryos and women should be forced to carry literally brainless fetuses

Then there's shit like Rattlesnake Roundups, which is just zoosadism marketed as a family-friendly event (especially the Sweetwater one which is one of the worst, if not the worst).

All native wildlife is also good, especially all native reptiles and large invertebrates.

That's one of the saddest, most fucked up things about Rattlesnake Roundups. TX has some amazing rattlesnake species that deserve to be respected and appreciated, instead of tortured and slaughtered by zoosadists who market it as fun for the whole family.

It's always been weird to me how everyone attributes every little bad thing about the South to Texas specifically when it's a pretty diverse stretch of land.

And then you have an autist like @Android raptor who seems to hate Texas for one highly specific, autistic reason.

Texas isn't the only state with these retards. Anywhere you can hunt them is somewhere an event like this may be hosted. These are from articles showing the cruelty of these events. These go all the way up to Pennsylvania which even surprised me. I'm not disagreeing with you that this shit is stupid but Texas is not to blame even if they host a larger one of these events... which even to it's detractors watchful eye only has an attendance of maybe 15k. If you trust the guardian on that one. Not exactly the state fair here. As far as it being 'zoosadist' have you watched that thread? Unless these cowboys are raping snakes with baseball bats I don't think that label applies.

I'd say pouring gasoline into snake burrow to flush them out (which can poison other animals) and chopping their heads off (not a humane way to kill a reptile since their head stays alive a while afterwards) and letting kids paint with their blood counts as zoosadism. Not to mention gutting pregnant snakes and other fucked up shit.

If people were doing this shit to cats or dogs, they'd have a thread in Animal Control.

The closest any of it gets to sexual torture is the gutting. That is a level of fucked comparable. Using the zoosadist label for just plain sadism is stupid. Were tribal humans zoosadists for making markings with animal blood? No, it was not wasting resources. It's dumb in modernity because who knows what diseases you're concocting doing this especially with kids but that isn't covering a baseball bat in ants and disembowling a puppy or killing a live pregnant snake, if that indeed happens. We don't apply serious labels like this haphazardly when you have demons among us like Tim Win still living free and unpunished for crimes much worse than what happens during these events. Attempting to ban this wouldn't be an accomplishment either. Limit attendance numbers and create regulation on just how many snakes can be killed, sure. Outright banning the use of gasoline for hunting them that would be good. Exposing the pieces of shit mutilating live animals for their own pleasure and making that illegal alongside animal rape would be fine by me.

They are mutilating animals for their own pleasure. Just because it's a snake instead of a mammal doesn't make it any less zoosadism.

Texas was a country for 10 years (1836 to 1846). Until Mexico got uppity about the US asking Texas to join the Union after losing the territory. Thus Texas folded in the face of renewed Mexican aggression that it had defeated 10 years earlier. Today, most of Texas is poor as shit, both white and brown trash, a failing electrical grid and more cattle than brains. Texas is alot like purgatory, not quite heaven, not quite hell and stuck for all eternity, which is how long it takes the leave the state driving in every direction. Dry, brown and dead for most of the year, expect for two weeks of absolutely eyepopping floral beauty in the spring. Genuine Tex-Mex food is amazing, though it has been perverted and spread through the country as "Mexican" food, which it surely is not. Every living thing is trying to kill you with spines, thorns, teeth, horns, poison.

I don't have an issue with people culling animals so they aren't a threat to the human population or if in certain cases it would be done to help the animals.

Is this what they are doing?

No. They're harming populations of native wildlife to the point of local extinction in some cases. Venomous snakes are typically not aggressive and aren't a danger if left alone. Most bites happen either from humans accidently stepping on them, or intentionally messing with or trying to kill the snakes. As long as humans are mindful of where they step in snake habitat (there's even stuff like snake boots and chaps) and don't fuck with them, it's not hard to safely coexist with venomous snakes.

There's a reason herpetologists have been trying to get Rattlesnake Roundups shut down or at least converted to humane wildlife festivals for years. It's just zoosadism painted as family-friendly entertainment targeting an extremely misunderstood group of animal people are unlikely to feel the same outrage over as a mammal (even mammals much deadlier in the US than snakes, like dogs and horses).
