Yes, but, Celzero Rethink (formerly RethinkDNS) (available on the Google Play store and F-Droid) can block most mobile ads within Android applications by acting as a VPN and applying various blocklists. In fact, you can block all internet access permanently for apps like your ad-supported Tetris game that have no legitimate reason to access the internet- so you get some privacy against the various universal tracking toolkits that all these things have included, not just the avoidance of ads.

Any car that connects to the servers of the manufacturer I will never own for as long as I possibly can. The idea of being stranded somewhere because your car refuses to drive because you didn't install a software update is dystopian as fuck. I'm fine with installing my own internet connected devices into a car, but nothing from the OEM like that.

I hate iPads because every time they release a new one, YouTube becomes littered with hundreds of videos from people all trying to turn the thing into a laptop, and they are all exactly the same video just with some different schmuck sitting in front of his wall of stuff.

If you want a real laptop, get a ThinkPad actual computer, and stop trying to turn this intentionally limited tablet into one.

Also you get a because you play Pokemon games on the actual carts apparently, and can replace the batteries.

Had to replace my phone after it broke, and I didn't realize how much I missed having a replaceable battery. It feels like such a basic feature compared to everything else. I'm glad I "dowgraded" to something else.

But in general I just got way less interested in tech nodaways. At least in the hardware side. I remember being in high school, getting so excited when I got a 1070 because now there were all these cool games I was now able to play. I got a 2070 ti in 2020 and I still feel like I spent too much. Not a single game I have played nowadays actually needs this thing, because new games are crap and only require it because they suck ass at programming anything.

Same goes for AI, VR, Etc. I still love VR, and dicking around with AI dungeon was some of the funniest shit back in the day. But as much as I fucking hate legitimizing whiny communists, these things were ruined by the suits. All of it had to be locked down so that you were using these things the "right" way, and according to them it was with a dick in your ass and ads in your face. They've become like printers now.

I like doing soldering projects in my spare time, fun little hobby and you get something neat out of the deal typically, but now just about any projects you can look up will say: "NO SOLDERING REQUIRED", what the fuck is that shit? That's the fun part. Is it a Zoomer thing where they're terrified of soldering irons? I have noticed a lot of Zoomers popping on to ask how they can fix their Xbox controller's stick drift and when people suggest that a replacement needs to be soldered they give up immediately. They act like it's some sort of inaccessible dark art. Practice soldering/desoldering on some shitty junk board with blown caps for a few days and you'll be fine, might not look pretty but it'll probably work.

Simple answer is not enough space. Most zoomers still live with mommy and daddy, or 4 other people in a $1500/month studio.

Of course, they could go to a community repair/open shop, but that would mean talkig to people instead of watching youtube videos about a lack of third places.

I have an iPad for two reasons. One for work where I use it to run conference apps so I don't have to try and pair my headsets to Windows, or worse, Linux. And one for a special app for my hobby which just now barely runs on Android tablets.

I just replaced it since the battery life had gone to shit, it was only 7 years old. Previous one I had a keyboard case. This one I got a full rugged case and a small keyboard. I use it rarely but it's nice to be able to bang out a quick email without pulling out the laptop.

Seeing how some ipad cost the same of a computer make me MATI tbh, it's a nice work gadget but that's it.

It was my dad gave who me his old games with his gameboy color, so couldn't toss it. Beside being of high sentimental value, I realise that a lot of old tech is easier to fix and last longer than now.
I understand that some today gears are far more advanced and more delicate, but I'm sad there's a lack of more simple and durable equipment for those who don't need the last high technology doing everything. You have to know the exact niche brand or/and to pay a luxury for it.
I don't need my phone to count my steps and kiss my forehead before sleeping, I need it to not break into pieces when it fall from my table ffs

Semi-rugged, but it was $1200 back in 2011. 2GB RAM 62GB SSD.
Now I have an iPad that has the same screen size but is so much thinner and lighter.

Which I then put in a giant Otterbox case to get nearly the same durability as that old tablet and it ends up being the same size. But at least the iPad battery life is better.

I end up doing the same for my phone, put the nicest tiny small slim phone in a giant rugged case to get nearly what you had with the original Cell Phones.

This immediately reminded me of this:

I remember wanting one of those Windows 7 tablets for the longest time, and one day finally got a Samsung Windows 8 tablet, and loved it for the time I had it. It was so much fun trying to get Windows games working on that thing.

I think my favorite iPad ever made was the 12.9 iPad Pro 2nd gen, which was the last large model with the home button on it, and I even had it for awhile, jailbroke it and everything, was a great thing and I played a LOT of Infinity Blade on it. Leads me into another "tech I miss/mourn" - mobile games for iOS/Android from before they largely turned into brain rot for gambling addicts or generic anime-waifu-gooner slop. The greats I remember are the Infinity Blade trilogy of course (see pfp), the old Gameloft catalog of games (remember N.O.V.A?), Aquaria, and a lot of other classics. There are still current real games you can get for these devices, but the good ones that aren't just console ports are few and far between last I checked.

I hate how big smartphones have gotten and how hard it is to find a small one that isn't a bendable screen flip, I want to be able to hold it in one hand and it to fit in my pocket, not a mini-tablet. At this point they're stopping to be "Mobile".

I still use wires for everything. Some people only use bluetooth for audio, but I remember like a decade ago a bunch of people talking about not wanting to put phones too close to their heads because the cell signal can heat up the brain from prolonged use. I now see people walk around with mushroom shaped earbuds in their ears all the time. I've noticed people will leave their phone at their desk, walk around, and still be listing to music; in range of the bluetooth signal. To achieve that kind of range there must be a fair amount of RF to have the earbuds keep a signal when they are like 10 meters away; and factor-in the signal amps on the earbuds are small and have to be low power, so much of the power has to be in the air wave to reduce the need to amplify the signal because of the power costs in amplifying the signal. I understand it's a convenience thing and companies are pushing the public towards this, but it is nuts how some of the same people who were upset about it just 10 years ago are now willingly exposing themselves to this shit. If they were extra concerned about it in the past when bluetooth signals were pretty weak, I'd expect those same people to be more reticent to try earbuds now.

I personally can't wear earbuds because they heart my ears, so I've always liked headphones better.

I still use wires for everything.

I use it for everything I care about. I also don't use earbuds. Mostly just because affordable ones sound like shit and I'm not paying what it costs to get one that (usually) sounds good.

Also both WiFi and even more, Bluetooth, are unreliable as fuck and I don't care if it's sunspots, cosmic rays, or just dipshittery, I'd like to get as close to predictable quality of connection as possible.

Experienced this exact problem just a few days ago. I still use my old trusty Pixel 4 from 2019 - it's small, feels great in my hand, and performs great with GrapheneOS despite the age.

Decided that maybe I should finally upgrade, as it's been over 5 years at this point, and the Pixel phones were on sale. Didn't want the "big" one, so got a Pixel 8. Got it home, and I immediately hated how much bigger and bulkier it was. Plus the performance on Graphene felt exactly the same on the Pixel 8 as my Pixel 4, despite being 4 years newer. Returned it the next day, went back to the 4.

Even the "smaller" model is big and bulky. Also fuck foldable phones. I hate this trend as it's all flash and no reliability in mind, not to mention no repairability in mind either.

Same. I took the day a long time ago to wire Ethernet from my network room to my office and living room area. Going to have to do the same to the bedroom now that I'm finally getting around to it. It's worth it because the ability to simply plug a cable in, and my internet is constant, just works, and isn't dependent on how much I want to use my microwave is worth the extra work.

I like things that just work, and don't get in my way.
