Possible drama coming from YouTuber MercuryFalcon. I have no idea what his sources are in the American dubbing industry but his videos are very well researched on the Japanese production side. So I'm skeptical as to why he would say this without receipts.

Oh, I SO wanna hear the stuff behind the Hell's dub.

What? No. That’s literally the opposite of what happened according to the TFS crew themselves. From what I remember it was Funi directly fucking on them over and over to the point that when they DID get rolls in DBZ related projects such as Xenoverse and Xenoverse 2 they had to use fake names.
I remember hearing something about Toei refusing to let Funimation use the TFS guys for any projects because they hated DBZA, but it'd be funny if Sabat was using them as a scape goat to keep TFS out of the industry proper.

I’m sure that’s probably true as well, though as I’ve said I’m just going off what the TFS crew has said themselves. The fat guy with the dark hair, I think he’s Lani, has blamed Sabat numerous times in the past directly and at least until the others started picking up jobs in the industry they at least seemed to agree with this sentiment. Though obviously now they’ve since split up over wavering loyalties with some having become Funimation cock gobblers.

Chris Sabat spent a literal decade of his life running a "Keep Your Enemies Close" campaign with Vic Mignona. Who's to say he didn't do the same thing to TFS? It wouldn't surprise me to find me to find out the entire time he was "running protection" for TFS, he was actively stifling them. It's something that would be in his ballpark and interest in doing.
I can see this, but I have to wonder if he was just being Toei's lapdog the entire time. Toei was mad that the Buu-saga episode of Hercule's "world-saving" fight against Cell had accidentally aired on Toonami because it had the TFS cast involved, I have a feeling they were hanging the license over FUNimation/OkaTron's head and Sabat had to be a good doggy and roll over. TFS possibly not willing to play the (long) game may have also hurt their chances at getting into the industry.

Fascinating. This could be the missing piece in my theory, then. I'm completely convinced from what I watched of them from multiple angles while this was going down that they quit primarily because they believed doing so would get them a position in the industry - in fact in at least one video which may no longer exist they outright admitted that DBZA was holding them back from getting into the industry - but then nothing actually happened and they've slowly been crawling back to DBZA. If they got big heads and destroyed their relationships because they were used to the work culture they created for themselves in their own personal studio, that'd explain it.
I don’t know if any of you remember this but TFS made an entire video trashing Sabat after he got one of their merch booths canned at a con. Granted they did finally do an apology video but that was pretty much the last nail in their coffin as I recall. It was shortly after that I think that they decided to end DBZA
Did they now? I don't remember this. I must have missed it. They did literally nothing but simp for Sabat the whole time I watched them, and were particularly proud to be in his 'in-crowd'.

That is literally the opposite of everything they've ever said about Funi, what are you talking about? Funimation was always the one shielding them, while Toei was the one screwing them over. Toei would strike their videos and they'd have to run to Funimation to have it restore them (because Funimation is the one with the english license, so it's Funi's say, not Toei's, who gets to make english dubs). Funimation also purposefully hired Lani, Taka, and Kaiser and in Xenoverse 1 literally just said 'you can ad lib your lines, just write anything you want and do it and we'll ship it. Make it funny like DBZA'. They also hired TFS to do the Cell Games parody scene on purpose (and left Lanipator's voice in it even in the final cut after Toei made them switch it), and gave Kaiser a bit part in Return of Frieza. If they had to use fake names, it's because of Toei, not Funi. Sabat had to use a fake name when he had a part in DBZA because of the fact that Toei would have been pissy if it knew he was voicing for DBZA. On the flip side, AoT was absolutely not allowed, and Funimation repeatedly told them they wouldn't be allowed to do Dragonball Super. Funimation was explicitly the one supporting DBZA. If they've changed their tune now, they were either lying in the past or lying now - and I'm inclined to say the latter.

If you go back and scroll through the comments section on the older videos, I'm sure you'll find plenty of "The TFS cast should VA Dragonball Super!" remarks. It's totally possible and within the profile of a faggot like Sabat to take notice of it and want to keep them close juuuuust in case. Then everything simply went south when Funimation collapsed and nothing came of this relationship and he broke ties with them.

I don't buy that for a fucking second. There were at least talks of making a clean break when they had the chance and they ALL knew it. Season 4 was questionable at best and that's why they wrote the episode the way they did. It was an open ended "if we decide to continue", right from the start. You don't write a finale when the following season is guaranteed.
I mean you're right. Sabat was probably always considering the possibility of betrayal, but I personally think rather than being their friend he saw them as potential lackeys, so to speak. Maybe he was sabotaging them behind the scenes, but if he was then he was throwing them more bones than Vic, who he insisted he was looking out for while he blocked Vic at every turn he could. As mentioned, Sabat did cast Kaiser in RoF, even if it was in a minor spot, and Kaiser got other random bit parts in other anime. So Sabat was giving them crumbs, which is more than he did for Vic, where he claimed he had his back and then actively sabotaged him constantly.

I think there was strife over whether there would be Season 4 or not. I think the message 'DBZA will return' means they were planning it, but it was written like a finale because other people - like Kaiser - wanted it to end. So it was written like a finale in case they won that tug of war, but then by the time it aired the 'let's do the buu saga' faction won. Until something changed and they dropped Bojack literally mid-development.

Well then why did the original Cell saga finale have this?

What would have happened if only one of them got a role? I'm seeing a crab bucket mentality where the other two would either sabotage the one with the part, or demand he secure them parts.
I mean, didn't the chick who voice 18 get a few actual VA gigs, I do recall both Kaiser and Lani going "Oh, she's just gonna end up working as a barista at Starbucks" after she left TFS and went...was it Chicago or NY fo VA gigs.

That comment chain made me lose brain cells. Like hell this overproduced fanfiction is better than the official DBZ.

He left citing creative differences IIRC. He wanted to do more serious work, while TFS wanted to continue comedy. Someone correct me if I'm mixing that up.
I want to say that it's more the opposite, he wanted to do more abridging while the guys wanted to get away from it, but it's been a long time. He commented about it on Reddit, I do remember they gave him partial ownership to manage the company, and Kaiser and Lani had to buy him out to leave.

Edit:

All I could find was this long rambling article mostly about a Legend of Zelda randomizers, where he claims they made Abridging so good it destroyed the community of amateur editors and made Abridging elitist, and they should of spent more time helping and spotlighting new creators.

Real odd take from the HBI2k himself that Kaiser's notorious poor work ethic and stubbornness to share the load was HBI2k's fault.

I'm gonna be honest though, sifting through Ben's recent posts is really insufferable and I didn't look that hard.

I mean, kind of get it. Dude was technically incharge so does indeed bare responsability for letting them indulge their ‘must be perfect’ mindset.

Which reminds me I find every single time kaiser said ‘i had fun making it so perfect’ to be beyond funny. Because he clearly did not have fun making it perfect. Otherwise he would have kept making the episode breakdowns. For someone that likes making the edit perfect it is the best vechile to berd out about making the perfect edit and yet he stoppef.

That and you can just tell that as the series went on he began to hate it

I do like in their Episode 28 Commentary they admit that they were only ever fast for cons. Kaiser admiting that the people that gave him shit were right will never not be funny.

I would like apologize to everyone in this thread. The Team Four Star lead was a false alarm.

Silly me thinking that someone who takes Chinese cartoons so seriously would use that same level of scrutiny on sexual predation allegations. This guy literally pays people to translate Japanese interviews to debunk "rando anime director said x in y interview about blah blah." But all he needs as a source that Vic is "100% a creep" is "my friend told me he heard something." If this is the level of dirt he has on Team Four Star then he is a fucking faggot of the highest proportions and to stop bitchy passive aggressive Twitter posts. And I fucking DESPISE Team Four Star.

I wanted to make a joke about not having this in my DBcember calendar, gosh dang it.
Most of TFS' problems in maintaining relationships is likely to be Kaiser's fault, unless everyone involved really are just drama whores.
Kaiser and Taka both have monster egos and think their shit don't stink, really bad traits when trying to get into an industry. And they are all also drama hoes.
What would have happened if only one of them got a role? I'm seeing a crab bucket mentality where the other two would either sabotage the one with the part, or demand he secure them parts.
See above. I bet big money the furry and the canuck have all sort of shit to make public if they ever absolutely need to jettison the other 2/3 of TFS.
