Possible drama coming from YouTuber MercuryFalcon. I have no idea what his sources are in the American dubbing industry but his videos are very well researched on the Japanese production side. So I'm skeptical as to why he would say this without receipts.

Fascinating. This could be the missing piece in my theory, then. I'm completely convinced from what I watched of them from multiple angles while this was going down that they quit primarily because they believed doing so would get them a position in the industry - in fact in at least one video which may no longer exist they outright admitted that DBZA was holding them back from getting into the industry - but then nothing actually happened and they've slowly been crawling back to DBZA. If they got big heads and destroyed their relationships because they were used to the work culture they created for themselves in their own personal studio, that'd explain it.
I don’t know if any of you remember this but TFS made an entire video trashing Sabat after he got one of their merch booths canned at a con. Granted they did finally do an apology video but that was pretty much the last nail in their coffin as I recall. It was shortly after that I think that they decided to end DBZA
Did they now? I don't remember this. I must have missed it. They did literally nothing but simp for Sabat the whole time I watched them, and were particularly proud to be in his 'in-crowd'.
What? No. That’s literally the opposite of what happened according to the TFS crew themselves. From what I remember it was Funi directly fucking on them over and over to the point that when they DID get rolls in DBZ related projects such as Xenoverse and Xenoverse 2 they had to use fake names.
That is literally the opposite of everything they've ever said about Funi, what are you talking about? Funimation was always the one shielding them, while Toei was the one screwing them over. Toei would strike their videos and they'd have to run to Funimation to have it restore them (because Funimation is the one with the english license, so it's Funi's say, not Toei's, who gets to make english dubs). Funimation also purposefully hired Lani, Taka, and Kaiser and in Xenoverse 1 literally just said 'you can ad lib your lines, just write anything you want and do it and we'll ship it. Make it funny like DBZA'. They also hired TFS to do the Cell Games parody scene on purpose (and left Lanipator's voice in it even in the final cut after Toei made them switch it), and gave Kaiser a bit part in Return of Frieza. If they had to use fake names, it's because of Toei, not Funi. Sabat had to use a fake name when he had a part in DBZA because of the fact that Toei would have been pissy if it knew he was voicing for DBZA. On the flip side, AoT was absolutely not allowed, and Funimation repeatedly told them they wouldn't be allowed to do Dragonball Super. Funimation was explicitly the one supporting DBZA. If they've changed their tune now, they were either lying in the past or lying now - and I'm inclined to say the latter.
Chris Sabat spent a literal decade of his life running a "Keep Your Enemies Close" campaign with Vic Mignona. Who's to say he didn't do the same thing to TFS? It wouldn't surprise me to find me to find out the entire time he was "running protection" for TFS, he was actively stifling them. It's something that would be in his ballpark and interest in doing. If you go back and scroll through the comments section on the older videos, I'm sure you'll find plenty of "The TFS cast should VA Dragonball Super!" remarks. It's totally possible and within the profile of a faggot like Sabat to take notice of it and want to keep them close juuuuust in case. Then everything simply went south when Funimation collapsed and nothing came of this relationship and he broke ties with them.
I don't buy that for a fucking second. There were at least talks of making a clean break when they had the chance and they ALL knew it. Season 4 was questionable at best and that's why they wrote the episode the way they did. It was an open ended "if we decide to continue", right from the start. You don't write a finale when the following season is guaranteed.
I mean you're right. Sabat was probably always considering the possibility of betrayal, but I personally think rather than being their friend he saw them as potential lackeys, so to speak. Maybe he was sabotaging them behind the scenes, but if he was then he was throwing them more bones than Vic, who he insisted he was looking out for while he blocked Vic at every turn he could. As mentioned, Sabat
did cast Kaiser in RoF, even if it was in a minor spot, and Kaiser got other random bit parts in other anime. So Sabat was giving them crumbs, which is more than he did for Vic, where he claimed he had his back and then actively sabotaged him constantly.
I think there was strife over whether there would be Season 4 or not. I think the message 'DBZA will return' means they were planning it, but it was written like a finale because other people - like Kaiser -
wanted it to end. So it was written like a finale in case they won that tug of war, but then by the time it aired the 'let's do the buu saga' faction won. Until something changed and they dropped Bojack literally mid-development.
