And by 'jokes' you mean 'callbacks to popular old jokes, lame new jokes, callbacks to the lame new jokes and unironic cringe singing'.

Remember when Vegeta did the cool guy speeches on Namek while everyone else laughed it off and the joke was he's a delusional tryhard?
Then in android saga Vegeta does the badass speech for real against 19 and there's approx 0% comedy.

DBZA really turned to shit very quickly post-Frieza, once Kaiser got to live out his larp of his childhood twink and him&Lani deciding android saga is too cereal to truly make fun of.
>android saga is 2deep4comedy

Srsly Kaiserfag is so full of shit. I could probably do a better job "abridging" the android/cell arc, with 100% less fart-huffing and cringe singing.

The entire arc is such a shitshow; from it's pacing, adding time travel, the fake-out with Gero and No.19, No.16 being a plot hook that led nowhere except asking Gohan not to be a bitch, everything about Cell. If there is one thing this period of Dragon Ball deserves, is being made fun of.

Coming from someone who liked the Cell Saga, it was definitely in need of mocking and being played for comedy. It’s a shame TFS did so little with it comedy wise.

I never really understood what TFS meant by "too dark and serious to make funny" it's not like they were doing something like Schindler's List. At the same time, I don't really understand the point of showing Cell's final demise to be set to Cell singing "My Way". And apparently, their cover of "Day of Fate" was supposed to be a way to get around copyright? Only to also have Jonathan Young do a metal cover around the same time (timing may be coincidental, but I don't care enough to dig into that).

Plus that aku cover was "the big thing" around that time so you know they have to copy the latest MEEEMEEEESSSSSSSSSS

Her's the thing though: Aku was a great balance between funny and serious threat. Cell.....TFS didn't try and I have no idea how he was in the original Dragon Ball franchise. Also, when TFS did "My Way", they did a straight cover while Aku did his own lyrics.
Kaiser being a faggot and Taka being a Canadian faggot that thinks "deep voice = talent"
I'm also reminded of that time they did a number for the introduction of Perfect Cell.

They've done a lot of songs s in the voices of abridged characters that make me believe that they do it for more than bits. They really think they ave talent in music.

Not too mention that the Saiyan saga and Frieza saga were pretty serious too, sure there was some moments and sections of them that were more focused on comedy, but that didn't stop TFS from making fun of them.

So what makes Cell and the androids any special?
I still remember this.

They've been doing this since practically the beginning.
I remember that too. But with how they had Cell singing, I think they felt they've felt they elevated beyond making parodies when it comes to their singing.

That one at least has a point, since Piccolo put Gohan through the wringer until the kid handled himself in the wild. It has context.

Now some bugman android serial killer with the DNA of shapeshifting monkey men from outer space, a real-estate development scam artist/war criminal (Frieza) and whatever the fuck Namekians are... sings Sinatra.

It's not even a joke. The only people amusing themselves were TFS.

My memory is kinda spotty, but I do recall how in the OG series Cell was treated very serious and he acted serious, he didnt have Akus mix of comedy and serious, he was just "Im the ultimate weapon and I shall blow up thie bitch because I can", like hell when he restores himself after suicide bombing he has this entire monologue how hes this perfect mixture of Friezas sadistic nature, Vegetas cold demeanor and Picollos desire to destroy. It was kinda clear that by this point Toryiama stopped giving any type of shit he could have.

Irony is, even Tori started to realise that at Buu Arc that the series was being a bit too serious since Android Saga for something that started as a gag manga. Seriously, you just don't go from Gallick Gun (literally a pun for Garlick) to Hellzone Grenade (it was badass, but not gag manga vibe).

Considering how hard they were pushing to go legit and pick up legitimate gigs around then I assumed Kaiser was trying to use the cell saga to prove his crew had legitimate acting/production chops. They had been so out of comedic material/passion for dbza by that point that they were skipping entire films, but still had it in them to get a plethora of shitty pilots for original content going. They were just desperate to get in the industry "for real" and ended up compromising the show over it.

Now you still don't hear them in offical dubs much at all and the only content they make that blows up are the dragon shortz and those boring list videos.

They didn't skip a film, though.
They hit everything up to movie 9.

And you can, at least in part, blame Toei's never-ending hateboner for everyone who isn't Funimation. Sure Kaiser's ego didn't help, but Toei's lawyers were definitely sperging the shit out of allowing them to keep doing bit parts in non-Toei-produced anime titles. I think they still are, in fact, because Toei doesn't know when to let go of a grudge.

Their legitimate gigs aren't really much apart from Funimation's alms at times.

Or maybe they're just not as good as they fancy themselves (except Lanipator, that motherfucker has range and should imo already be getting Christopher Sabat's roles after Sabat's "casting couch" antics were outed, but double standards and so forth).

For reference, Kira Buckland worked in at least one abridged series, plus innumerable Newgrounds projects... yet she was the main character in one of the biggest games of recent years. Regardless of one's opinions of her, the girl had the cojones (and probably luck) to grind, slowly getting roles until she made it.

Maybe they should have seen the writing on the wall and, once Namek got finished, put an actual effort into being noticed on their merits, maybe do a couple reels, do bit parts in some bean mouth CN show, and build a resume... instead of illegally riding Dragon Ball's coattails.
