Best class(es) to play as?

Valve did Medic's weapons so dirty near the end. While none of his arsenal is bad today, they needlessly buffed the Crusader's Crossbow so hard it made people completely overlook the Syringe Guns (and gave them a bad reputation); needlessly gave all Medi Guns the Quick-Fix's speed buff which made it less useful only to then for whatever fucking reason in Valve's infinite wisdom nerf the damn thing afterwards; nerfed the Amputator and needlessly reworked the Vita-Saw which made the Ubersaw completely overshadow his melee weapons as well.

Goddamn Valve got so unbelievably retarded with balancing Gun Mettle and beyond.

I think what Valve was thinking especially after Gun Mettle was: "Meta, META, META!!!" As was very common at the time, a lot of TF2 creators were putting a big focus on what weapons were "the best" and Valve, wanting to see lesser played classes be used more often for the new competitive mode they were trying to build. So they tried to fast track these classes' viability through weapon buffs. This is mostly what happened to classes like Engineer, Pyro, Heavy and especially Medic.

Buildings are too slow? Make them build faster! Make the Jag the only viable option! People don’t want to be next to sentries all the time? Make the Rescue Ranger a must pick if you want to keep your buildings up. This one was changed, but you see the idea.

Pyro struggles to get in close to people to kill them? No problem just make the brainless spam tool even easier to use and rewarding. I'm sure everyone will love it.

Heavy is too slow? Why change the class at all, just make the Tomislav even faster. Give it an accuracy bonus too. Why should the defensive tank have to learn positioning, just let him do it anywhere!

And of course Medic. Valve retroactively decided that the Crossbow should be stock, so they buffed it into the sky and made it basically a requirement for playing Medic. Which sucks because the Syringe Guns are all pretty good and still have their place in his loadout today, it's just you lose so much by not having equiping the Crossbow. You lose so much burst healing with the Syringe Guns, their only real usecase is when your team sucks, and just is incapable of defending you. I still like weapons like the Overdoes and Blutsauger, I can't deny the Crossbow is just so much better in almost every way. Not to mention, most people expect you to be using the Crossbow, even in casual and get really pissy if you're not, which can be funny.

I still think that all his Mediguns are fine (I think Lister overexaggerates the loss of identity of the Quickfix, its fine) though there will always be that sway toward Stock, but for the most part, all the Mediguns are pretty well balanced with obvious strengths and weaknesses. Melees are a diffrent story, the Ubersaw is just so powerful, it really just outclasses everything else. It was always like this but various nerfs and changes to Medic gave a lot of weapons like the Amputator and the Vita-Saw even less of usecases today.

Valve really wanted to push people to using specfic loadouts for these classes, finetuing the best weapons possible not to be good in specfic scenarios. But to be objectivly the best in most situations. A far cry from how they normally balanced their game. It's a real shame to be reminded of all this.

My biggest problem with Sniper is that it's painfully obvious that a lot of them have decided to "get good" as it were, and the playerbase has completely forgotten how to tell someone's cheating if they aren't staring straight up at a 90 degree angle spinning in circles and spamming noise makers. This isn't helped by the fact that casual, in another amazing decision, decided to disable spectating.

Once I was playing on a server that was experiencing severe lag issues, to the point that nobody could aim as anything other than pyro so the whole server was pyro and engie, except for this one sniper that was still hitting consistent headshots. And nobody said anything or pointed out how strange it was that this Sniper wasn't affected by the server itself lagging.

So they tried to fast track these classes' viability through weapon buffs.
Sure, let's just forget about the ramp-up penalty they introduced with L&W (and doubled down on with JI), the sentry resistances nerf, the Brass Beast / Natascha damage resistance nerfs, the Buffalo Steak "nerf" (it was bugged to be +10% damage vulnerability instead of +25% for years until they fixed it with MYM), and all of the melee weapon nerfs (Warrior's Spirit, Fists of Steel, GRU / Eviction Notice).

Heavy couldn't catch a fucking break in Valve's final years of balancing changes.

A new Team Fortress 2 mod has been added to the Steam store, called Team Fortress 2 Legacy. At a quick glance it appears to be a ripoff of Team Fortress 2 Classic, using an almost identical logo and what appears to be screenshots of an old build of TF2C. The company name for TF2 Legacy is "Enigma Studios" which is suspiciously similar in some ways to "Eminoma Studios". The mod appears to be an old build of TF2C from prior to the 2.0 update that removed Deathmatch, as the Steam page lists 4 team and deathmatch as features.

The "developers" have been in the Discussions board for the game replying to people asking questions about the mod. They've also been heavily pruning any discussion threads that they don't want being seen, as I've seen a few threads pop up and then disappear. Here is a thread where one of the developers replied stating they spoke with the TF2C dev team and got permission, with a user claiming they spoke to the TF2C dev team and received a different answer.

A pinned thread was also recently made to address questions:

What's really going on? Is any of what the developers are saying true? Who knows.

Edit: I've discovered that TF2 Legacy started out as a mod that was strictly Android-based. For a few years now there's been a way to emulate Source engine games on Android. It's a bit shit to play, but it works. TF2 Legacy started out as one such android-based mod. Far as I can tell, it likely used an old TF2C build as a base. Now that they're on Steam, they're ditching the Android stuff, but still ripping off TF2C.

They've also been avidly defending themselves on Reddit, not that anyone on reddit really cares as evidenced by the lack of comments on the post.

Update on this stupid fucking waste of a $100 Steam store listing fee, courtesy of a tranny from Knockout.chat:

Also I went and checked the game's Discussions tab and saw that they once again purged a bunch of threads. There's only 4 threads remaining now (there was around 10 threads at one point a day or two ago), one of which being the pinned thread. They seem to have a major boner for hiding any criticism.

They also have a Discord server where it's very obvious the entire project is nothing but ESL hires, mostly Russians, but some Spanish speakers too.

Sandman and Amby didn't need any nerfs. It was always due to malding Sniper faggots that were upset that other classes could fight back with enough skill.

I miss the original Sandman. Nothing was funnier than using infinite ammo and a fast rate of fire (via donator perks on old idle servers back in the day) and just demolishing people with a stream of moonshot baseballs.

Team fortress 2 classic is great but the issue is that its filled with a bunch of FAGGOTS. Seriously every goddamned lobby i join is filled with trannies and "femboys"

Isn't this mod the one that was made by some redditors at the same time as 8 /v/'s TF2 Vintage?
Nah, TF2 Vintage I think came out a year or more after TF2 Classic. TF2 Classic I think was the first proper mod for TF2 if you don't count Fortress Forever. Also isn't TF2 Vintage abandoned at this point? I seem to recall something about the creator of TF2V being some sort of a faggot.

I found out here that that obnoxious pretentious faggot SolarLight had a hand in ruining TF2C. Which is a huge shame because I liked that mod inmensely and I like the concepts they use, far more grounded than TF2 in regards to the art direction.
