I think the majority of them are motivated to continue doing it because it pisses off the largely aspergic base. There is a large subset of people who care a lot (or too much) about the game and who often publicly complain about it/contribute to community drama, and from that I can only guess that the bots target those sorts of people so that the bot controllers satisfy some anti-socialness or amusement by stirring up the people on reddit and twitter.
Additionally, I also think there are people who might do it also for the technical challenge, as in they think it would be interesting to deploy their own networks of uniquely configured bots and see how they perform or how far they can get to mitigate bans/ban waves.
I know there are some nets which in the past promoted paid bot "protection" in chat as one example where some tried to get money out of it. Aside from that I haven't seen much else from the few times I have been joining pubs these past years, but there might be others which could promote cheats, products, etc. to get money. Aside from those, the only payoff I can see from the bots that just infest, aimbot, spam, and don't do much else probably just fall into the motivations of the above.
Ah, ok that makes a lot of sense. I hadn't thought of it in the way of industrial-scale griefing. I can appreciate a solid piece of clever or mischievous griefing as much as anyone, but it lacks the immediacy and personal connection of conventional griefing. The only payoff is that it's an extremely easy, zero-risk way to grief people on a massive scale. Bots are cheap as shit to run due to requiring very little processing power to work if you run the game in compatibility mode on Linux, extremely easy to set up if you have even average computer knowledge since you can easily get your hands on the programs required, and Valve rarely actually VAC bans the accounts - and if they do, you can just create a new one. It's so simple and easy that literally any script-kiddie could host a few bots if they wanted.
Though, it's probable that one of the reasons for why they choose to host these bots is because a large amount of them are lolcows themselves. We already know that one of the old bot hosters (the one who ran the "Twilight Sparkle" bots that you used to see around a year or two ago) unsurprisingly turned out to be a brony who considered himself to be married to a cartoon horse.
There's also been occasional discord leaks that have shown some bot hosters showing their autism. I can't remember what exactly caused them to sperg the fuck out - only that it was something to do with someone causing one of the programs they use to host bots to stop working.
They get off to being faggots. What I don't get is why they pay money for it when they do it for free. Look at any comments about LMAObox use, they boast about being obnoxious. What do the bot operators get out of running the bots? Are they just determined to kill the game? Is there some sort of tangible benefit or payoff to running all those bots and ruining the game?
Oh boy, can't wait for Valve fanboys to shit their pants once they realize that their "savior" is just another corporate entity.Open Fortress and TF2 Classic now have their downloads enabled once again due to huge "shocker" Valve not saying shit or working with them for 8 months
I've been playing TF2Classic for a while, now. So it's good to see it be a lot more populatedOpen Fortress and TF2 Classic now have their downloads enabled once again due to huge "shocker" Valve not saying shit or working with them for 8 months
Last I saw the bakery that made those was functionally bankrupt. We're doomed. Here's to hoping they do something worth while. Whoever fixes TF2 gets the big pink cookie.
Two words:How does Null manage to enjoy TF2 in the peak of the bot era?
This channel is a fucking treasureAmidst the doom and gloom, it's nice that some people still record the spergs of TF2 in the wild.

They had something good going with classic, but they started making balance changes and added weird new weapons. They just couldn't resist, all it should have been was literally just classic TF2 with the initial achievement items and that is allAnybody played TF2 Classic yet? I honestly found it to be pretty fun although the mostly tranny and faggot playerbase is the worst part of it + people only playing on the faggy official servers, other than that it takes me back to the days before all the hat and random weapon bullshit the game has become now.
Also #SaveTF2 is the gayest shit known to man and it will not work outside of minor bug fixes + the summer cases (if it ever releases).
I played TF2 Classic since it's conception, around 2014, I think? Anyway, I agree it's pretty fun in general, but nowadays the mod suffers the same syndrome of other obscure multiplayer mods: the community is niche and full of pros that keeps away new users.Anybody played TF2 Classic yet? Knockout/Facepunch trannies make me very wary of it and their servers seem to be most popular. I don't get their obsession with 7 million unbalanced weapons either, the default roster is just fine. If you join an empty server running vanilla TF2C, it usually fills up in about 30 minutes or so during peak hours.Anybody played TF2 Classic yet? Free for all modes are hectic enough where even a player with deteriorating skills will have fun, sadly they're less popular. This seems to be a good niche for Open Fortress, gives me good vibes of playing Quake or Gungame in CS (which is one of the only good ways to play that spectator simulator).I played TF2 Classic since it's conception, around 2014, I think? I can't manage to play a round without having my ass whooped, and I play TF2 since 2008. These days I just launch TF2C to play with bots since the new version actually polished up the AI pretty well and it's very fun even without other human players.
Get good? Eh, I'm afraid I have no longer time for that.
So how large was the projectile? For anyone who still cares, update just dropped
Iron bomber got nerfed finally
