Yeah, I'm getting the vibe the DM just wanted to use you as a tool to kill his players. Why? Don't fucking know, but honestly I'd have probably left after most of them were dead and stating that this is not how you run a good game.

It's one thing if it's a dungeon crawl and he establishes things like that could happen. It's another when you're used as a hatchetman for no reason beyond pleasing the DM.

Attunement takes an hour. Something you actively have to do. You just can't touch an item and be instantly attuned to it.

Sounds like the DM was trying to make you use the item no matter what and just wanted to fuck with the party.

Could you tell me how combat went down?
I guess the DM handed out that weapon and assumed that the player would salivate over new gear that's slightly more potent, stumbling headlong into the masterful trap of "lol it's cursed, fuck you!"

And thinking about this, that's exactly how I got my cursed item, too.

Maybe he gets off on killing characters and going "this is a very mature game for very mature gamers, such as myself. You can die at any moment, isn't that coooool?"
I've seen GMs that think fucking over the players for stupid shit is the absolute height of running a game. Stuff like the players are sneaking through a cave or basement with someone carrying a lamp, they hear footfalls and hide, so the GM goes "The baddies spot you, cause you didn't extinguish the lamp!". I fucking hate it when GMs go this route and when you point out that no one would be so dumb as to not put out the light when they try to hide, the GM will go "Nuh huh! You didn't say you extinguished it, therefore you are all illuminated."
With GMs like that, I halfway expect to asphyxiate, cause I didn't specify that my character breathes.

there are games where that is expected, like the call of cthuhlu tabletop rpg. it is harder to DM, but if he wants to kill players he should just start a different game instead of making up retarded gotchas in d&d. Theres always roll20 if he doesn't know anyone who wants to play a horror game.

There certainly are games that are more lethal and unforgiving than others, but even in those, the DM shouldn't railroad his players into a TPK like the above example.
In CoC, it might be the old trope of "You find a d6 with 7 sides, roll for sanity", something that just pops up out of nowhere and forces bad consequences upon you, but doesn't build atmosphere or fit into the narrative.

I've been trying out DungeonDraft and WorldDraft and so far they're not bad, but no where near as good as say Fractal Mapper or Campaign Cartographer. They're handy if you're just starting off at making your own maps for the first time.

It looks like Adam Koebel is going down for good.

Moral of the story: Woke social media is utterly without mercy, forgiveness, or pity, and no matter how good you are, it is only a matter of time before they turn on you.

Koebel built his brand around giving SocJus friendly advice to GMs, and then he proceeded to disregard his own advice. Even giving him the benefit of the doubt that what he did was a mistake, it still shows that even the most woke are just a few poorly chosen words away from being excommunicated. It's extra ironic given how if anyone else would have done this, Koebel would have been the first to publicly call for their head. "The hateful reaction was so severe that it shattered my previous beliefs about how my community operates." Bullshit. Karma is a bitch, Adam.

Good. I hope the audience these idiots cater to destroys them all, one by one. Mercer is next, I would wager. The dude keeps his public persona squeaky clean, but it's basically a matter of time before something from his past or someone he is close to puts a noose around his neck.

There was an artist named Edward Kienholz, who made pretty trippy art installations. One of his more memorable ones was a chair in front of a loaded rifle that was hooked up to a timer. The timer was set up in such a way that it would fire randomly at any given time between the time of being set and the next couple decades. Visitors (after signing a special form) could sit in the chair so they'd look straight at the barrel in front of them, not knowing if the gun might shoot or not.

The rifle might shoot a minute after the timer is started... or a hundred years. There was no way of knowing at what time it would shoot but if anyone was sitting in front of the rifle when it fired, it would blow their brains out.

This is what I picture when I see someone catering to SJWs. It's just a matter of time when the trigger is pulled and you have no control over when this happens. When you have built your entire life around being in their focus, you will suffer, when this happens.
Granted, SJWs can ruin your life even if you have nothing to do with them, but it's surreal to see all these people getting bitte by the rabid dogs that they catered to and every single one goes "But why me? I was such a good friend to you! I thought this only happened to the others!".

Doesn't even have to be true. "He groped me at a con when we were riding an elevator together" would be sufficient, even if the accuser doesn't have a single proof to show she was even at the con.

So a friend of mine is running Lancer on table top simulator and I played the other day.

I kind of expected something janky and weird, but it's one of the cleanest fucking games I've ever played. Combat feels like a well thought out war game, simple structure with tons of options. RP character stuff is like a simple indy rpg designed around role playing. I can't say its seamless, but it's damn near close.

It's also fucking free.

This holds your hand like a down syndrome kid when making characters and looking up rules https://compcon.app/
PDF is free too https://massif-press.itch.io/corebook-pdf-free

It's worth a look. I don't know much about the lore but I've been fucking around with the character creator a lot.

Anyone else play this?

Yeah. Reap what you sow, Adam.

Koebel got cannibalized. Plain and simple.

The moment he was hoping his friends would come to his aid, they didn't. They postured and denounced him the loudest to the short endorphin rush of likes and retweets.

What Adam did was egregious and horrible DMing. To use those tired plot devices shows a DM not worth his salt and someone who needs to be a player for a while and mature before taking over the DM mantle.

But death threats and being completely ousted from any and all gaming projects with no chance for redemption is plain lunacy.

Everyone is ready for to call for a person's head on a pile until it's them on the fringe.

For what it's worth, I hope he comes back. He did have some decent tips and could run a well run RP game when he wasn't shitting it up with his hypersexuality

When you think about it, that really illuminates the difference between the old crowd and the X-card crowd. If I was playing in Koebel's game with the weird android USB orgasm port, that would have warranted a, "Dude, your game sucked tonight, that was weird and cringey, definitely never do that again." Instead, a bunch of adults jumped on social media to announce that he had basically raped their lives forever and then set about ruining his career. When you have that kind of person in a roleplaying game, I guess you really do need consent forms and X-cards, because God fucking help you if you trigger any of them.

What was it he did again?

What was it he did again?
He streamed a game he was running where an android character of one of the players got some kind of orgasm device plugged into it by a technician they went to for repairs. He'd evidently meant for this technician to be wanting a relationship with the android, but it came across in an extremely rapey way. Specifically, instead of just hitting on the android, or being upfront about wanting to bone androids, he roleplayed the technician being just weird about things and not explaining what the purpose of the orgasm dongle was before going and plugging it in. The fact that the player of the android was a woman really put the nail in his coffin.

Did the woman complain about this?

Would be extra shitty if it was proxy-indignation by people who aren't even affected while the affected person just sorta shrugs and goes "It was cringe, whatever."

During the game itself she was smiling and giggly, which to be fair could be her response to awkward situations. After the game is when she gave a super serious YouTube video about how traumatized and possibly raped she was. You may still be able to find both the game itself and her video if you care to see yourself.
