New World/Chronicles of Darkness is a pretty good system to introduce new people to role play with. The dots system helps make dice pools more intuitive to a new player, plus the varied super natural splats aren’t needed to use the core system for just about anything.

I've played tabletop games for quite some time. Started with TSR's old Marvel FASERIP system when I was about ten or so. The ones I play most often are 3.5 D&D, Mutants & Masterminds and NWoD (Changeling and Mage being personal favorites)

I like playing in crunchy systems, Mutants and Masterminds is a go-to as long as nobody goes for some of the infamously broken builds. My broke-ass brain tends to lean towards more narrative games like Fate Core or Apocalypse World when I GM.

Our group is currently trying out Phoenix Dawn Command, which is a card based tabletop RPG. It's made by the guy who did Eberron. The fluff is pretty nifty. The players are basically justice terminators who came back to life to stop an undead army from taking over the world. You "level up" when you die, and the mechanics kind of prevent you from dying unless you specifically want that outcome. We've only done one session of it so far, but I'm liking what I'm seeing.

I've played both crunchy and narrative games. Currently using FATE with Wearing the Cape, and I might start dipping my toes into GMing, just don't know what system to start off with though. I might start with Feng Shui as my first system.

First, here's intentional shilling:
We really just dick around with some Chick Tracts this Episode, but here you guys go

As for what system is really good for favorites, DnD 3.5 and 5e are stupidly popular and a guaranteed game in my circles. I'd personally suggest Modiphius' 2d20 system as well, mainly because they have some of the better property titles available, ranging from a very good Star Trek tabletop to an upcoming Fallout one. Lastly, I'll shill for the old Fantasy Flight Warhammer stuff as well as New World of Darkness, since both of them scratch grimdark sci-fi and horror pretty well in the right hands.
Around here whatever new D&D game will be the most popular to find games to be in, followed by Pathfinder. However you're more likely to find a good DM for D&D than you will a GM for Pathfinder. OWoD/ NWoD is regulated to LARP so I avoid that at all cost. I found out that the area has a huge Warhammer following still even after the death of our War Rooms, so I'm looking into getting back into Warhammer and Warhammer 40k (not just the tabletop miniature game but the RPG's as well) once things settle into a better flow for me.
Modiphius is currently my favourite company/ system, Followed by EN's WOIN. I want a more high fantasy setting from them though. They've done a good job with Star Trek and even Elite Dangerous for sci-fi. Conan is probably better than the old d20 books. Soon they'll have Dune so that's another book to check out.

New new's on the tabletop lawsuit.

I called it!
Other player involved not putting up with the mob mentality is Frog God Games (as mentioned by @thx1138 ). Why is Steven Jackson Games involved? Torturous Interference. It seems as something like four or five people tried to interfere with a contract they had (Jessica Price is involved of course since she hates tabletop games despite working in many organizations). When will speds learn? At the very least pick your targets better...And don't fuck with Texans.

Frog God Games is owned by one of the former owners of Necromancer Games, the other went on to Legendary Games. This will be pretty large as Necromancer games was one of the better 3rd party 3.x companies out there in terms of quality and that continued on with Frog God Games. They've made some of the best adventures out there such as Rappan Athuk and the best Monster books like Tome of Horrors 1, 2, & 3 and the Pathfinder version. Also, Clark Peterson has a career in law too. (He was a judge for 4 years.)

So,what's everone's take on Fantasy and character-power in rpgs?
I personally prefer low-power, low-fantasy and I really dislike any system that tries to mix magic with anything that clashes in style, such as Iron Kingdoms or Shadowrun. Concerning the latter, mixing Cyberpunk with Magic just doesn't work at all...

Either Low-Fantasy or Epic Fantasy for me, not a huge fan of High Fantasy unless I'm reading it.

Low fantasy can work with Cyberpunk, such as Cyberpunk Cthulhu games, but it doesn't work with High Fantasy, no clue if it could work with Epic Fantasy.

im unsure how shadowrun clashes in style, since it isnt solely about Cyberpunk, rather its more the addage "Any sufficently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic"

On one hand, you have a guy who's wired to his gun with genetically boosted reflexes and artificial eyes and on the other, you get Harry Potter throwing Fireballs.
One is science-fiction, the other is fantasy. To me, it's like ice-cream and pizza. Both are great ion their own right, but still I would not combine them.
I feel the presence of magicians and dragons and all that jazz just mixes really poorly into a futuristic setting.

I played it for a while and I really enjoyed it, but with every session, my dislike for the magic/fantasy aspects grew.

I've seen some pretty good war rooms in my day, such as my dad's, but it's a shame that war rooms are dying. Nothing beats having a war room with a bottle opener and a fridge right outside of said war room.

Depends on what system you are using for character power in fantasy, but my general consensus is that low fantasy campaigns use fairly basic magic and the magic becomes more powerful the more fantastic the setting becomes. Dark fantasy is the oddball as it is meant to be a container to stick what type of fantasy your using, which brings us dark low fantasy, dark mid-fantasy, and dark high fantasy, where the more fantastic elements are played for horror. You can further split these into further categories by how powerful characters are in general. I also wholeheartedly agree with you on cyberpunk and magic generally being incompatible with each other, which is probably why I prefer the Cyberpunk series of games over Shadowrun. Then again, I'm a firm believer that magic hits its peak with high magic, but then decreases in power the more technological you get, until you get to the point where magic is permanently supplanted by technology. No matter how technological it gets, there's still a place for Neo Kobe Pizza.

Shadowrun is a fun system because of the interaction between tech and magic. You can't mind control someone as easy with tech, and spirits are fun to have running around. Plus who doesn't want to do a full military raid for a dragon?

Imagine not wanting to play as a Nerdy physadept who thinks they're the great saiyaman
now im sad because im not in a campaign

So we might be moving over here with this Dungeons and Drag Queens bullshit. Long story short, Frog God Games / Steve Jackson Games are being illegally harassed by a bunch of psychotic mean girls. Have been for years. Well, FGG lawyered up and the girls involved are about to get a legal ass raping.

But someone else can give a proper explanation. I wanted to cross post this over here, because it's probably pretty damned important.

This is fresh off the GG reddit. A few years back they found the original statement from BJ Hensley, the supposed "victim" of Bill Webb / Frog God Games's owner.

The person who complained about Bill Webb's actions at PaizoCon? She changed her story once the SJWs got to her.

Let me repeat that: BJ Hensley changed her statement after some mean girl clique (Jessica Price et all?) got ahold of her.

Also, apparently, the "Paizo Employee got hurt" might be a lie that Price et all made up for sympathy and to attack Webb with.

Here's her original private statement to another FGG executive:

View attachment 737100

oh! I just realized I forgot to include you. I extended to [redacted] that if he wanted to know my version of the Paizo Con nonsense he was welcome to call me. I meant to send to you both but I realize now I never did. So the offer is there.

Said employe replied "no worries" and she replies:

I did tell [redacted] though, since it made me angry that the girl gaggle was misrepresenting it all to serve their desires and issues. So he should have the story as well.

Those girls were traumatizing, I'm still mad at him for putting me in that situation but really it was less Bill's actions and more his apparent desire to commit Seppuku in front of the Paizo employees. sighs. either way I still like you and [redacted] just fine.

She was more upset that Bill Webb made an ass of himself in front of Paizo while drunk. The whole "I got a cigarette and it was TOTES SEXUAL HARASSMENT?" That was a third party -- Jessica Price et all?? -- spinning a bullshit narrative. That's why it sounded so pants on head retarded, it was because it was literally a bunch of SJW retards being offended on her behalf.

BJ only became "scared" of him "stalking" her later, after she forced FGG to remove the above image, after the mean girl clique got their claws into her. She only became a victim in retrospect.

As fun as that sounds, to me, it's just a gimmick and the moment the novelty fades, you're left with a game that blends fantasy and cyberpunk as well as water blends with oil.
Though, admittedly, I never cared much for the magical aspects of RPGs themselves. I enjoy fantasy races and creatures and I enjoy divine stuff and the effects of magic, but I never, for the life of me, could be bothered to actually read up the rules for magic for any system I ever played in the past 20 years.

I've seen some pretty good war rooms in my day, such as my dad's, but it's a shame that war rooms are dying. Nothing beats having a war room with a bottle opener and a fridge right outside of said war room.
Around here it was because people were too busy to play and leasing the areas got too expensive. Elsewhere in the country they're still thriving. When you see the cost of living going up you know your favourtite gaming places will be in trouble. There's supposed to be a few in house war rooms but I don't know where they are and now days I'm too busy for them so I one day I'll have to set my own up.

So in the FATE campaign, we got some more exposition and watch a bunch of people kill each other while arguing, and I managed to get a whip that can hold an electrical charge and slice armored cars in half because someone wanted someone to test it out, and who better to do that than a Russian man with gravity powers in medieval styled armor and a six foot pernach that can be thrown and then come back. I also managed to turn a totaled armored car into a cannonball and then kept it in a gravitational rift for later use. I also managed to put holes in my own armor due to not being used to the whip. The futuristic pirate also got knocked out twice due to being a pervert.

WE SPREAD DIVERSITY THROUGH TABLETOP GAMING BY RUNNING A TON OF GAMING EVENTS AT CONVENTIONS AROUND THE COUNTRY BECAUSE #REPRESENTATIONMATTERS.

I didn't know tabletop games still needed representation. I've played with women, gays, lesbians, black people, Jewish people, Muslims, people who obviously had mental disorders. Like how does the hobby not have representation? Also, I only just heard about them and they've only gone to two conventions. I can just imagine how bad their sessions are at these conventions.

Also, I really hope Zak will be the next to hire a lawyer. This bullshit in the hobby needs to end.
