Hey guys, hope I can ask something of the dnd fans here.
My sister is a big fan of the game and I want to draw her a character as a present. Are there fairies in dnd as playable characters? If not, is there any race one can plausibly modify into being a "fairy" lookalike? I know literally nothing about this so tia

In the official, licensed game? No. However, I have no doubt there are people who have dreamt up a homebrew Pixie race for players to use. If you want to stick to the official material, the closest would probably an Assimar (angel people) or a wood-elf.

Cool. thank you

That is really nice of you to do that. Other options if she is playing 5th edition is to use the Fey Elves who actually change their body type with the seasons
Thanks! My sister is my besr friend. And that may actually be the best option for me because I'm going for a very strong naturey "queen of the forest" vibe. I'll look it up and decide.
If this were any other forum I'd share the picture but it's against my code of conduct to post original images here that I also show to people irl or may post elsewhere, for privacy reasons. Sorry QAQ

Well you can always private share if you want. Eladrin are actually a pretty cool race of elves whose personality can also alter with the "season" change.

In 4e D&D, the Eladrin are a playable race. They're from the Feywild, which is like Arcadia or Faerie, and the Eladrin are similar to the Seelie and Unseelie sidhe Fae. There is also a 4e splat called Heroes of the Feywild that deals exclusively with playing a faerie kind of character.

Hope that helps. You made me plug 4e, now I feel dirty... :P

Eladrin came out for 5e officially in Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes. They're considered subraces of elves, so they get the elf package plus:
  • +1 Charisma
  • Fey Step: Once per short rest, you can teleport to an unoccupied square within 30 feet as a bonus action.
  • Seasonal Affinity: Choose the Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter affinity. You can change which season you are aligned with after completing a long rest. From 3rd level onwards, your current seasonal affinity bestows a bonus upon your Fey Step ability. Save DCS are 8 + your Proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier.
    • Autumn: Immediately after you use Fey Step, select up to 2 visible creatures within 10 feet of you; those creatures must pass a Wisdom save or be Charmed by you for 1 minute or until you or an ally attack them.
    • Winter: Choose one visible creature within 5 feet before you teleport; that creature must succeed on a Wisdom save or be Frightened of you until the end of your next turn.
    • Spring: You can use your Fey Step to teleport a willing creature within 5 feet by touching it, instead of teleporting yourself.
    • Summer: Immediately after you use Fey Step, each visible creature within 5 feet of you that you select takes Fire damage equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1).

What kind of fairy are we talking about? The Fair Folk or Tinkerbell?

More fair folk. Wings, kidnapping, talks in riddles, knows everything.

Not D&D so I don't know if it's something you want to check out, but there's a World of Darkness game called Changeling: the Lost that's all about the fair folk. It has pretty much everything you're looking for. Lot of good artwork in the core book to get you started. You can download it on thetrove.net if you're interested.

Edit: avoid the earlier version Changeling the Dreaming. That's more along the Tinkerbell side of things.

Interestingly when we do use fey on oWoD games we tend to copypasta from The lost.

I have an ongoing D&D campaign going with my siblings, but at the moment its on hold. Its the 5th edition, but our story is all over the place. I am Rouge so I wanted to pickpocket some patrons at a bar for some coin or clues to an ongoing mystery. Well I rolled a one for perception and a nat 20 for stealth. So I had already pick pocketed the guy that I ended up getting . The dude had a hole in his pocket and I ended up grabbing his... cough... family jewls. He then turned around and puked on me. :suffering:

...Sounds like a typical day for a Rogue.

What edition? Changelings might be a pretty good option, but I don't fully remember if they're fey or not, and they're a tad creepier than what she might be aiming for. If you're aiming more for something like a pixie-ish fairy, maybe look to reflavor/alter a race that has flying, and work from there?

Edit: Should've scrolled down, my bad. Changelings might not work out so well for that type. I forgot about Eladrin, so maybe consider trying those? They're already rather close, so it wouldn't even take reflavoring.

I wanted to get into D&D, even started setting a bit of money aside so I could get what I need to start, but when I asked people at the campus I go to, they got REALLY hostile to the idea. These people play Beyblade, Magic, Pokemon, and other typical nerdy things, but D&D is too boring for them.

D&D can be hard to start up initially, it's true. My advice is to either try starting with just a few close friends first who you can guilt into trying it at least once, or try to find a game shop of sorts and see if they have D&D there. If they do and the place seems nice enough, drag a friend or two their for a "one off" session.

It can also help to say you guys will be starting a bit higher level to start (around Lv.3 is good) so that everyone will get cool stuff. But always remember to put your best foot forward when introducing these people, make sure everyone has fun, and try to avoid killing anyones character first session...unless they do something really dumb.

And most important of all, don't invite immature 12 year olds. I had the misfortune of dealing with two, one plays as Garfield Sans (I wish I was even kidding), and the other plays as a shapeshifter who can turn into fictional characters, but mostly sticks with SCPs and Kirby, to the consternation of everyone else at the table.
