Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester has been evacuated after a 'suspicious package' was found on a bus.

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that they were called to reports that a 'suspicious item' was found on a bus at 1.15pm today.

Officers are in attendance and several roads have been closed with a cordon remaining in place.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: 'Police are currently responding to an incident in the city centre.

'The bus has been evacuated as a precaution and a cordon remains in place.

'Enquiries are ongoing.'

Manchester and Wigan Stagecoach also confirmed that services that normally use Piccadilly Gardens bus station on Parker Street are being diverted.

They said: 'All services that would normally use Parker Street (Piccadilly Gardens bus station) will start the routes from Portland Street (Outside Yates). The services will operate on a load and go basis.

'This is due to a Police incident. Sorry if this affects your journey with us today.

There are also no Metrolink services operating through Piccadilly or Market Street, with trams operating from Exchange Square instead, Manchester Metrolink said.

Some serious shit going down!

Shame it was a nothing burger, Piccadilly gardens could do with a high explosive face lift tbh. That being said why are people so fucking scared of "suspicious packages" given the vast majoiry of them are just retards forgetting their shopping and the vast majority of terrorist attacks in recent years have been snackbars who kept the thing on them.

Awesome. Just awesome. This reminds me of a story when I was 18 and just entering the work force.

Keep in mind this was before 9/11.

I was working on construction for a couple weeks. Everyday I would go to the same restaurant. Then head back to work after break.

One time while I was walking back I seen this bearded dude with a duffle bag on a bus bench. He was hand making his own stick of dynamite right there for all to see. Of course everyone stayed well away from him. Thing is no one bothered him. He looked like a far right libertarian type bum.

You'll see the weirdest people down town man.

This isn't anything new. One of the jobs I worked at made all their employees take a "security" test (this was as soon as GDPR became a thing), and one of the questions brought up the "suspicious package" scenario. The correct answer was to call law enforcement to get them involved.

Even before that though, if you ever took a train to the city, you would see signs inside the train and the stations themselves saying shit like "if you see something, say something", which included black duffel bags on the floor with no owner.

People now-a-days, especially after 9/11, assume these things are going to blow up if they aren't supervised or something.
