I bought every fighter and stage for Smash, both Wii U and 3DS, because I am a whore. Except Mario Maker, fuck that stage.

Bayonetta is really fun! Very faithful too.

Earlier today, I played as Corrin and managed to defeat a Mewtwo on For Glory just by spamming my forward smash attack most of the time. Yes. Really.

Then again, Corrin is somewhat overpowered anyway, so meh. *yawn*

EDIT: The SSB website has been updated to reflect the upcoming game. Current release date is 2018.

Call me :optimistic:, but I seriously believe that this might be a completely brand new Smash Bros game. There's no way Nintendo would just make an announcment teaser like this and then later go "Oh no this is just a port of the Wii U game."

I’d say more a port but with a bunch of added stuff(new characters, stages, ect).
 
This is the first time a Smash game has been announced outside of E3, and it's the first time a Smash game has been given a release date within the same year it was announced. I'm willing to bet that this game is going to be different than the other ones in the series since it was revealed in such an unconventional fashion.

My predictions:
  • Rayman will be playable and there will probably be something from Bethesda and/or From Software. You can usually guess the third party characters based off what companies have been working with Nintendo and they've been all up on the Switch.
  • Heihachi from Tekken could also be in there, Sakurai said he wanted him in Smash 4 but couldn't make him work. He said the same about the Villager, Pac-Man and the Miis in the past so it seems like they go back to the cutting room floor often for their new ideas.
  • Someone from ARMS of course.
  • I will eat a dick if the Ice Climbers aren't back. It was a technical limitation that kept them out of Smash 4, from what I understand based off interviews their characters are mostly finished, they just couldn't run on a 3DS.

It's a 2018 release. No way they'll have a brand new Smash out so soon.
 
I really hope it includes all the characters from Smash 4, if it doesn't that would be fucked. Oh, and bring back Snake.

Well Nintendo has been getting better at announcing big games and releasing them that same year, like if they can announce Xenoblade 2 and release it all within 12 months, I'm sure a new Smash coming out in 2018 isn't out of the question.
 
I just want The Prince as a playable character (:_(
 
It's probably not a port, all things considered. There's a new logo, it has BOTW link, it says original game in the bottom left corner in the trailer and it states that it's a working title. Despite it coming out relatively soon, there's probably enough time to develop a new one because it's been almost 4 years since Smash 4 came out and Melee was developed in 11 months.
 
If it really turns out to be a proper Smash 5 I wouldn't be surprised if they just took the engine they had in the previous games and modified it slightly to make it kind of sort of feel like a new game. Especially since Smash 4 focused a lot on marrying the best of what Melee and Brawl offered.

Hell, they have 58 characters from the last game they can just carry over to this one. I doubt this game had that much man-hours put into it compared to others in the series.
 

According to this video, most of the characters from SSB4 are coming back such as Yoshi, Mario, Link (With his Breath of the Wild outfit), and maybe Ness and Lucas from Earthbound.
