I don't know how people came to this conclusion, but I think people are REALLY misinterpreting what Reggie said about DLC. He never said that all the characters will be from series not from Nintendo and were not repped in Smash. He simply said that they were all new characters.
As in all the characters will be completely original and not an echo fighter. Since we no longer have to worry about cut characters, we can finally look forward to completely new characters, whether they be from Nintendo or not. Think of it as being like Smash 4's DLC lineup but without the veterans.
Tried a handful of online games. First match got paired with an Incineroar and a fucking faggot Link who stood on one end and spammed projectiles and up-smashed when approached. Second match against a Samus who didn't know what she was doing. Third match against a legitimately good Marth and I got fucking bodied. Fourth match against a Ken but the lag made the match unplayable from the beginning so we both SD'd.
Has Wu ever heard of delayed gratification? Having to work to unlock characters is part of the fun. But nope, it's "I must run for congress and win now" and "I must have a Porsche and have it now" which makes life boring.
Holy fuck that lag is unreal. First online battle bro got into had a Kirby spammer (faggot died first lel), a Link who didn't know what he was doing and a K. Rool who won the match. Bro was a bit slow to dodge, still got second.
You'll wind up with a ton of food by the end of the game so don't worry about it. As long as you're leveling someone whose base power starts at ~4k they'll be viable for every fight.
Geno's probably the best spirit in the game from what I've seen. He's unmissable if you're approaching Galeem from the left-hand side.
Also finished WoL. Yay. Nowhere near 100% completion though.
More games need bossfights where there are two bosses actively trying to kill eachother and you're just sort of there. It was great having them just eat eachother down to 10%.
AI definitely seems cheesier in the sense of being more strongly disposed towards using perfect timing/perfect spacing. I've kept them on level 4 for purposes of dicking around and get fucking destroyed a third of the time. Also I can't play for shit but who gives a damn because Ice Climbers and also I'm about to spend an hour calibrating the music to be exactly the way I want it.
The AI in this game actually seems to try predicting you rather than just having a 2-frame reaction time. I say this because it actually will also make wrong predictions, like dodge prematurely if you fake them out.
A good way to beat the AI, and also real players, is trying to get them to do something unsafe by faking them out. If you're juggling them, try to approach in a way where you can wait to see what they do, and that you can still hit them if whether they dodge or do nothing.
Steep learning curve just in terms of all the characters alone who have been introduced since Melee, but if you loved Melee you'll love this. Just don't worry too much about the 17 years of emotional baggage that has elapsed in between.
