I’ve actually been curious. Where the hell did Geno hype come from? Why such a random pick? Is there something I’m missing? I’ve never played Mario RPG so I wouldn’t know.

I thought he was neat when I was a child but that's about the length and breadth of it. He's neat but he's also completely a non-factor beyond that, had that same kind've 'Cool Character' energy as Zero from the MM series.

I may be wrong but I think he was also the second best damage dealer in the game because of his abilities. So maybe that was it? I haven't played Legend of the Seven Stars in over a decade that information could be wrong.

He's legitimately the worst damage dealer besides Peach and arguably the worst character in terms of gameplay. His only strength is his speed, which is an almost complete non-factor when it only determines turn order. You can use him to buff the damage of other characters but you're better off just slotting in Peach if you want a dedicated support character.

Also in terms of writing, he doesn't add anything and has zero personality. It's especially telling when he has less character than Mario's depiction in the game, and Mario is a silent protagonist who only communicates through charades.

So he's not even powerful they just liked that he shot lasers then, I guess.

I do remember Peach being really good for support but everyone always seemed to push for Geno because they said he was really good. For certain explains why I had an easier time with Bowser on the team than him.

Didn't Geno have a special move that one spotted enemies and bosses if you timed it right?

His fandom is a meme in the same fashion as the fear of clowns or transgenderism. People join to fit in with a group, appear quirky or due to peer pressure from the mentally ill diehards.

No, just enemies. You were usually better off just opting for crowd control rather than nuking a random mob enemy, especially when most attacks instantly kill them anyway.
