It's a bit of a bizarre American quirk that it's become so fashionable that most of the population doesn't think anything of putting their kids through it. The only time it's beneficial as an option is when there is a serious medical need to do so. It's just over the years the circle jerk in America made people believe that it is better than not doing it because various made up reasons.

The risks of complications far outweigh any reason to do this to a child that doesn't need a circumcision for a medical reason.
