The best part is that we're going to get a bunch of salt regardless on wether or not Dragon Quest / Banjo Kazooie shows up.
Tbh I’m placing my money on Banjo and Kazooie (that resetera admin’s leak was pretty convincing), but I’ll be perfectly happy whoever shows up, assuming it’s not another fire emblem swordsman

If datamining holds any weight, it'll be a Dragon Quest anime swordsman instead.

Today's the big day for the salt mines!

Get those pickaxes ready!

(Nintendo's E3 is in 14 minutes).

Dragon Quest man and Banjo got in holy shit

Altho Reggie said this would be "unexpected characters", any random dragon questguy was a super safe pick. Of course, at least we'll have the cries of generic sword character again.

It's probably been mentioned already at this point, but what are the hardcore Melee players on about when they say that the game is a competitive fighting game? Aren't like half the mechanics they use unintentional gameplay bugs?

Yes, but if we're being fair "gameplay bugs" aren't just in Melee - they're in a fair amount of fighting games (inescapable vortexes, infinite combos, weird interactions, etc).

Personally I've softened up on the "Smash isn't a competitive fighting game" stance over the years. I'm ok with it being treated competitively.

It's just the hardest one to get into, the worst one to play, and the least fun one ever invented.

And as it turns out, both of them shows up. Can't wait for the salt from both people with hateboners with characters using swords AND weebs pissed off at the site of non-Japanese character over their shitty Fire Emblem waifu.

The gameplay bugs don't matter in the end. Melee fanboys will look for any obscure guide to indicate that actually it was an intentional game mechanic that adds depth, anti-melee folks will argue that they were glitches that someone tried to pass off as intentional. It doesn't matter, though, because what actually matters is whether the (((bugs))) improve the gameplay experience. And they don't. Any time Melee fanboys try to practically suggest improvements or changes, make their own version of the game, all that happens is they add inane wavedashing to make more clicky clacks. Because they're stuck in the childish mindset of "if I can do this obscure thing that I practiced for hours I'm better than you". Like a 7-year-old bragging because they made you look at the ceiling or blink in response to normal behavior. Because they're still obsessed with Melee despite it being an almost 20-year-old game that has been surpassed by other Smash games.

They can't really argue that Melee was designed to be competitive when you have to rip out most of the game content to force it to even remotely be that way. It's kind of like claiming that Resident Evil for example is designed to purely be an item management game and you just ignore/rip out the action/horror elements of it.
